It doesn't matter what header you have, just make sure you have your own unique ID and for that you can buy the cheapest game you can find.
The rest like sizes etc. will be handled by the 2 tools we currently have.

Ok, i've just spent a couple hours yesterday and today reading all this shiske over, and I just wanna make sure I have everything straight.

I take any retail game I own, dump it, export the header, and inject it into any game I want to play online? It doesn't matter if the header is for a Card-1 or Card-2 game? I have 1 of both, but I just want to make sure. If I can get away with using a Card-1 header with a Card-2 scene dump, I'd much prefer that. Dumping Animal Crossing is going to be a pain otherwise :P

save data for card 2 games (Animal crossing is one of them) is stocked and the end of the rom directly.
if you know how to use an hexadecimal editor, open your animal crossing rom with the editor and search for data written after all the rom partitions. Fill them with "FF" and you're done.
If you never use hexa edits, just trim your rom, and then untrim it. The save data will be wipped and ROM refilled with padding by doing so.

edit : not sure about this solution, but there is maybe a combo key that you have to press at game's launch to force it to erase your save. I know many Nintendo games can do this. dunno if it works with backups.

Awesome, worked like a charm to trim and untrim.

Just tried using a randomly generated chip ID for Animal Crossing and Bravely Default and the online functions are working.

presume he just means he used the generate chip ID button, you would have to be pretty lucky to make a valid cartID

i.e he just fixed the chip id which is what the programs are for

Is the generation completely random or there's something to it?

no idea, i only have a handful of carts to compare the best way of knowing if there is any sort of order would be to get a whole bunch and see if there is any pattern, but it may be that they are just pretty much randomly generated by nintendo and added to a whitelist, or possible there is a algorithm for creating valid codes and nintendo only checks if its a "valid" code.

woops, what I meant was cart ID. Looks like you can put any 16 number length hex in and have a functioning rom. Nintendo may very well have a whitelist, if that is the case they may also know when you are spoofing the cartID with a cartID from another personal retail game.

i had a quick test with changing some of the numbers in a valid cartID and it just broke onlineplay, if your able to connect with any ID it would be unlikely there would be a whitelist.....unless you just guessed a random valid ID

Highly doubt it was valid, I tried changing a single number before and it also worked. What game was it? I can't test Pokemon since I didn't update before the 7.2 firmware update.

Then again, servers of different games are hosted by different companies I believe, there may not be a standard screening method for cartIDs.

nope just tried mario kart again with 1 byte change and no online, what game did it work for you with?

....if i'm honest the speed at which it says online is unavailable seems as if it fails some offline check, its pretty much instant, so unless it connects before you even choose online, the actual failing to work online might actually be decided by the 3DS itself
