Hacking How to tell firmware of a 2DS by serial number?

I've found some posts that tell the serial number for a 3DS, but can't find anything for a 2DS.

I don't think we have an index of the 2DS by serial (and it would take a massive amount of work to start one now), however since it can run on lower firmwares the odds of getting one with less than 9.2 is way higher when compared to the N3DS.


edit: it's not as exact as one could hope but you might try looking for what year the copyright is. To be totally safe I would say anything copyright 2013, however unless you get unlucky with a 2014 system you should be fine as well.

Thanks. I picked up a red 2DS with Yoshi download from Target. They have them clearanced for $89.99. Didn't want to open it if it had newer firmware.

I feel like the odds of getting a 2DS with newer firmware is so low that there's no need to worry. I got a Mario Kart 2DS bundle back in November and it came with the lowest possible firmware for a 2DS unit.

You can buy one at Amazon and get one with >9.2

I buy a 2ds just about every day from multiple stores for resale, I have never found a red or blue on a FW past 6.3 or one with a download past 7.2. I buy the 2ds the same price I buy non xl 3ds units and let the customer pick what they want
