Only 3000s with >6.03 (IIRC) and pspGo are currently incapable of running CFW (the rest of the 3000s need to reboot into CFW via ChickHEN each hard reboot). While 1000s/2000s are wide open with Pandora batteries or if they have

Ok, so I forgot about the 2000 with a TA-088v3 motherboard then it can't use a Pandora battery at all but all the other 2000s can be upgraded/downgraded from/to whatever firmware you want with a Pandora.

IIRC it is not to do with being able to install CFW but rather being able to use a 2000 that already has CFW from creating a Pandora battery.

Only one variety of PSP 2000 Mobo can create a Pandora via softmod. The rest are incapable of modifying the EEPROM. Only one motherboard type of 2000 cannot utilise a Pandora - the TA-088v3.

The necessity for a Pandora for a FULLY hackable mobo is only present above 5.03.

Any TA-088v3 or PSP 3000 can only use a temp firmware if they're under or on 5.03. Above it and they equate to the Go. At that point you're limited to Half Byte loader and it's sparse range of compatible emulators and homebrew. No ISO loading.

Oh, chickhen is used on PHAT too? I thought you could install any CFW on it just using a Pandora battery.
I never got to reading much on PHAT since by the time I got a PSP the only ones sold were only semi-hackable

Either method works up to 5.03. The Pandora battery just is a universal method that will work on any Phat with any firmware currently installed (or even bricked).

I got all the way to this part

1. Run and update to GEN D3 (Be careful what you press on, there is also an option that upgrades to OFW 5.50 and we don't want that!)
...until I ran into trouble. GEN D3 is not showing up right in the games menu. It is a general question mark titled "corrupted data". It won't run obviously and it doesn't help if I copy it over again.

Whats your folders like?
ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE
(I think its UPDATE, or it might be GEN D3)

and the eboot should be in that folder.
along with 550.PBP on the root.

Solved it by deleting the corrupted version via PSP first and then getting a fresh copy. All modding is done now. Great guide, it looks harder than it really is.

got a question when i am trying to update psp cfw which thing do i go to install the file under PSP/GAME then update folder or the 550.pbp

I currently have Prometheus which is 5.50 if I wanted to update so how do I upgrade? I don't want to download a bunch of stuff and I already have Prometheus so I was hoping it has an update or whatever.

Er. I was thinking, should be upgrading to GEN D3 on the guide be through Hellcats or leave it as the XGEN updater?

Both have their ups and downs but I think Hellcats is far more better.

Edit: Also, I may add a poll, see if this guide was helpful and see if bits need re-doing if its too hard.
Edit2: Poll'd

As for the differences between Hellcat's and XGEN, what are they?
XGEN formats the settings on the PSP while you have an option on Hellcats.
Then you have the DIDNT READ OPTIONS, UPGRADED TO 5.50 OFW noobs
And with Hellcats you can extract the .prxs of the update.pbp to save space on the memory card

Just Hellcats giving you that little bit extra.
