So I've been on PRO-B10 for a while, and I don't have any of the old installer files on my PSP. How do I go about updating to PRO-C2? I've already put all the files necessary to install it, should I just press X to run CFW or should I uninstall using PRO-C2's uninstaller? Should I uninstall the permanent patch first?
PSP model is 1001 01g, if that helps.

I downloaded and installed 6.60 PRO without any problems but after the installation, and whenever I try to launch Fast Recovery, or the Updater itself once more the console simply turns off making me try to launch the program once more just to have it turn the console off again. Strangely enough PRO works at times but those times are very rare, it has taken me as long as 1 hour of continuous attempts to make it work at times. Any idea of what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Do you have any plugins enabled? Try formatting your memory stick and trying again with just the PRO fast recovery to be sure they're gone.
Is it a genuine memory stick? (Magic Gate support as indicated by a push of the triangle button in the Memory Stick sub menu)
What sort of console do you have?

Sony stopped updating the PSP over a year ago.

So nothing has changed.
And if you can read instructions and go slow, you'd be very unlikely to brick it.

Q: On PRO's googlecode page, 6.60 PRO C2 is listed... I've checked all files and I don't see a PRO C (without the 2). I'm pretty sure there wasn't one just labeled just "C" but that's what shows up on my PSP's system info (6.60 PRO C). I have no firmware issues or any issues at all, just curious. Thanks~

Hey hey what's up guys? Been a long time since I visited here. So, I have a PSP-1000 with 3.3 custom firmware installed. I haven't touched it (obviously) in QUITE some time. Just got all the pieces back together and was going to get back into the swing of things. It looks IF I want to upgrade to the newest custom firmware I either install official 5.0 or use some hellcat to get me there and then follow the rest of the instructions on the first part of this thread. Can someone confirm I'm looking at this correctly. Also, would there be any reason I would *NOT* want to upgrade from the 3.3x custom firmware I have? I can still play shit off the card and whatnot? PSX games will still work and convert and whatnot? No loss of functionality, is what I'm getting at. I'd appreciate the confirmation - at one point in time I was up to date on all that stuff, but it's clearly been awhile. Looking forward to wrapping my brain around it again.

Yes you should just follow Rydian's guide...simple, step by step path.

No, there are absolutely no sensible reasons why you'd want to remain on 3.3...

xist,

Thanks for the confirmation - that was exactly what I thought too, but like I said since it had been so long I was hoping for some confirmation from someone more up to speed. Thanks again!

So, I feel like an idiot but I am at wit's end. I just snagged a PSP-2000 and wanted to try out the scene but unfortunately I cannot seem to get it to work at all. I have tried multiple guides online, including this one, various OFW and CFW, all to no avail. No matter what I do it just lists my ISOs as "corrupted data." Any suggestions on what the heck is going on?

Go into system information and tell us what firmware you're on when you're trying but failing.
Ensure that the ISO names are short - FinallyWe'veReachedTheRealFinalFantasy-2.ISO isn't short. Changed to Game1 it is (for example). Your XMB menu reads data from the game so filenames are irrelevant and won't confuse you later.
Tell us the file path of where your ISO's are located. They should be in X:/ISO/TurnipFancier.ISO

Hey so I'm having problems in the recovery menu. I've read that in order to play iso games I need to go into the recovery menu and move something around. Something about "no umd mode". The only problem is that in my recovery menu nothing in the configurations has a umd option. I'm on 6.60 firmware, it's a permanent hack. Also on a less important note, whenever I try and play a snes game on my Snes9xTYL0.4.2cm emulator, sometimes when a cutscene happens everything goes black. Megaman X and Earthbound are the prime suspects. Thoughts?

The emulator works great. Thanks.

So ISOs work fine without toggling around with anything? Hmm, well nothing shows up when I actually try and play em. I remember I first put them in the GAME folder and it said corrupted, but then I read up and made an ISO folder and that's where I keep the games. But now nothing shows up. I do want to make note that they are not backups, they're roms from the interwebs. The two games that I have, have a ton of individual files to them, kinda like the game is broken up into little pieces.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a patched ROM
