How to run Linux in your PS4's Browser

Tux.png

I havent been active in the community as of late but there was something i found that i felt was so important i had to come back and write one more tutorial. I found a way that you can run Linux on your PS4.

Requirements-

5mins of your time-

Mouse and keyboard would be recommeded-

1.Open up your browser on your PS4

2.go to http://bellard.org/jslinux/

3.This Linux Distro was built in javascript and was made to run right inside your browser and Since the PS4 Browser suppourts Javascript it will work.

There you go Linux on the PS4, i know its only through the web browser which is kinda lame :/ But its a start and something we can all tinker around with

I tested this on my Mac and it works fine I'm beyond positive it will work on the PS4 as well since it only requires javascript which the PS4 browser Suppourts, feel free to test this out and confirm

As of 8:08 am CST i can now confirm this works

running Linux through the browser has no use?? does that mean that I can't run steam like I would with regular Linux distro??
This isn't a full fledged Linux distro, it's extremely basic and is running off Javascript. This has no use other than "Oh neat, Javascript Linux". Not to mention it's running in the web browser, which is run in a sandbox and has access to virtually no hardware. You probably couldn't even run Steam, let alone play games on it.

oh... ok... I guess I'll wait to see if that 4.55 kernel exploit is true or not... or if there's ever an actual release...

If you want to run Linux on your 5.05 PS4, you're gonna wanna use PS4 Linux Loader: https://github.com/valentinbreiz/PS4-Linux-Loader/tree/5.05

I'm not sure if there are any restrictions regarding drivers for 5.05 (haven't looked into it much myself), so I dunno if you can run Dolphin/other games.

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

Did you feed the hamster in your internet router? It prob died and is running slow now.

@BigOnYa, why did you start saying my pc has a hamster in the first place?

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
