Sorry, I know there are alot of topics about the firmware right now, but I couldn't find an answer to my question in any of them. I've always heard people saying that the firmware is updated automatically when you go on the DSi store, and that woerried me because, well, I obviously wanted to use it! Just now I saw a video of someone CHOOSING to update via the settings menu. So which way is it? Or is it both and it's still not safe to go on the store?

It's both.
Just don't take your DSi online at all and you'll be safe.
To be extra sure, make sure that there aren't any open Wi-Fi networks where you'll be operating your DSi.

Oh... So basically I can't purchase DSiware, nor can I download the browser, and if I want to use my DS I must either go outside or unplug my Internet, which takes a 1/2 hour to boot up...

How do you guys deal with this stuff!?

Don't unplug your Wi-Fi, just make sure it's secured and the DSi doesn't have the security key for it. At least until something comes out.

Or just update it? I mean, it's not like the DSi has had any updates yet that were harmful to homebrew or flashcarts, so you can just update and download the browser.

I'm not stopping you, you can update if you want.
I was replying to the OP in which method the DSi updated.

and so updating the DSi will cause your flashcart not to work,
or is it just a risky move, because nintendo might have updated DSi firmware to block out the acekard?

im not sure which one is it your talking about...
