How important is post count to you ?

It matters only in the same way a join date matters. To know if someone is a potential scammer/spammer/new/trolling. Over a certain amount it stops mattering.

If posts counted then the Twitter users who get thousands of likes would be Gods.

Some of the dumbest things I've read on this site came from people with a high post count.
The only thing post count does is gauge how often someone feels the need to share their opinion.

Feel free to check out Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube and Facebook if you feel like getting depressed.

Post count is utterly pointless. The only indication it gives together with join date is how active someone has been.

I think there's a way to say how many hours you were online from joining till now. Again it would be useless, I couldn't care less about likes too.

As others said reasonable approach to spelling and grammar, sense of humour, evident desire to do the "if you are going to post then make the internet a better place with it" thing.

Indeed. Grammar and punctuation are pretty big for me. I rarely post unless I have something to contribute to the topic or I can help someone out. Usually am pretty patient and polite to everyone, in general.

I've been a member for going on 3 years with just over 500 posts and then their are people who have joined recently and are at over 1,000. I like to think that I've made a good impact on the site and people view me favorable, as I'm only here to help and have a good time with other nerds. It's really more about quality of posts over amount of posts.

Most members usually just lurk the forums from time to time to catch up on recent scene developments and don't often post.
There really isn't any real link between post count and respectabiity/knowledge.

Some are really helpful in a very active sub-forum / topic. Some are shitposters.

I've also noticed how some of those (shitposters) tend to want to boost their post count for the sake of.... e-penis or something. For example in some very active discussions where members A, B and C are discussing something, and member P joins in:

P: Hmm, interesting.
B: *replies to A*
P: That is also a way to look at it.
A: *replies to B*
P: Yeah, I think so too.
C: *replies to B and A*
P: Interesting opinion.
.... and so on.

They keep commenting "air" that doesn't contribute anything, only boosting their post count (and bumping the thread).

Most postcounts are inflated by shitposting and borderline spamming, so no it means nothing to me.
I'll see nobodies with 2k+ posts and have never seen or heard of them before, because all they do is shitpost in the 3DS section.

In that same vein I also don't care about join date unless it's all the 1post joined y-day posters that pop up for tempmas and other contests...
I see terrible posters who joined 5+ years ago, I see good posters who joined a year ago. It's completely random and there's no relation between join date and post quality.

To be honest, I don't really care about post count, but let's be honest, we trust more a person that has 1000 than a person who has just joined. That doesn't mean the first is right or making anything real and the second is a prankster or anything else. But yes, I don't real care about post count, but in post quality.
