Hardware How common are ribbon issues?

So Ive had a blue 3DS XL for about 3 years now, no issues. I also have a N3DS XL also no issues there.

Ive heard of some people having ribbon issues (the pop and turn off) problem. I am hearing of this happening on N3DS XL.

I am curious how common this is and if its caused by normal use or does the console need to be abused for this to happen..

Most importantly, from what I understand you cant just replace the ribbon cable? you have to replace entire top screen because ribbon cable is not detachable? Is this the case?

normally, abuse causes it. the main ribbon issue people have is not the ribbon failing but it becoming loose from the connectors on the board. this can be fixed by reconnecting them.

It is possible to damage a ribbon cable in most cases it is just loose.
