PS1/2 How can you increase materia slots in FF7 original?

I'm playing the PSP version from the PSN store but since it's just an emulation of the PS1 game I thought it would be better to ask this question here

So this is my first time playing the original of Final Fantasy 7 also FF7 Remake was my first FF game of the entire franchise so I'm only familiar with FF7 Remake and Rebirth mechanics

So my question is, how can I increase the number materia slots?

By using different equipment, certain weapons have materia slots, bangles, etc. some equipment will have more slots than others. You’ll probably find some the more you progress into the game.

Increasing materia slots was only a thing for the Remake/Rebirth, as it was made with the mindset of keeping weapons viable for the whole game.

Original version you get more slots by getting better equipment, either via buying it, finding it in a container, or occasionally as a drop/steal.

There's no way to improve any equipment you have, only replace it as you go, you won't be keeping a weapon for overly long before something better is available.
