I have Retroarch version1.9.9 in my SD card and games usually load in 5-7 seconds, but whenever I have my HDD with Wii U games plugged in, it takes much longer to boot and load games, so I was wondering if it's possible to keep the HDD plugged but hidden from Retroarch so it doesn't mess with the loading times. I could unplug the HDD every time I'm gonna boot Retroarch, but maybe there's another way?

Yes it's possible, I own a version on my HDD myself. However, you must use a playlist from the new version of:
https://www.marcrobledo.com/retroarch-playlist-editor/

I can't give you more details about the new versions, because my HDD configuration is version 1.9.2. Nothing has changed during this entire update until 1.9.9. However on my SD is version 1.8.5, which I toggle when I want to test something!

For this I used ftpwiiu. It takes forever hahaha

The problem is that I have everything running on my SD card and it works fine, but if I have a Wii U HDD plugged in then Retroarch takes a long time to boot, and roms take even longer to load, so I'm guessing it has something to do with it detecting the storage device at launch, but I'll give this a try.

Hmmmm. I cant tell you about that. I've done several tests with the HDD on the wii u and with an SSD in the USB port. And both work. Now, in a matter of speed, I believe it is something with retroarch itself! The version I have is also time consuming, but in the new version on my SD it is much faster! As I said. I haven't really tested the new HDD version of the wii u yet. who knows, this topic was a trigger for me to update and do .
