Hexen v0.26
Here's the latest update to Hexen's port to the DS, originally coded by Whitehouse, now maintained by Sektor.

What you need:

- The hexen.wad from the full version of Hexen (shareware is not currently supported)

- A DS and a compatible slot-1 or slot-2 device (tested on M3CF and DS-X OS v1.1)

How to use:

Step 1:

- Figure out what device you own

- hexenDS.nds is for GBAMP, MMD and slot-1 devices

- hexenDS.gba.nds is for slot-2 devices like SCSD and M3CF

- If you have a GBAMP, M3CF, SCCF, SCSD or DS-X then you don't need to use the DLDI patch. Skip Step 2.

Step 2:

- Download dlditool and the DLDI driver for your device

- Patch hexenDS.nds or hexenDS.gba.nds with a DLDI patch for your device

Step 3:

- Copy hexenDS.nds or hexenDS.gba.nds to any folder on your card (on DS-X it's best to use the apps folder)

- Copy a retail hexen.wad (19MB+) to /hexen.wad or /data/hexen/hexen.wad (that's X:\data\hexen\hexen.wad for Windows users)

- Launch Hexen and hope it can find hexen.wad

- It should saying "LOADING". It can take up to 15 seconds on some devices. There is no progress bar. It if takes longer, something is wrong.

What is broken:

- Saving and loading don't work.

- For now, use the level warp option in "ds" section of the main menu.

Played around with it, pretty cool.
Graphics are good, you can allow an option in the DS option screen to sharpen the pixels. Though it will slow down a bit at parts.
Buttons are:
d-pad- Move around
A-Attack
X-A little weird for me, open doors then sometimes i can fly up and down while holding it then forward or backward
Y-Jump
B-Use item and sometimes it dosn't use the item and skips to the next inventory item
R-Switch weapons
L-Cycle through the inventory
Select-Map
Touchscreen-Look around

It should work on DS-X OS 1.02 or 1.1 but not on 1.01. It may not work on a highly fragmented drive, so you could try formatting then copying over Hexen.

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

@SylverReZ, i think they have been doing that since late 2000s

Either that or their old games were unfinished aswell but we can't notice it

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
