I've released version 0.5 of my port of Heretic to Wii.

The changelog is as follows:

* USB Support
* GC Controller Support
* Classic Controller Support
* Wiimote and Nunchuk controls rewritten to take advantage of the Wiimotes IR
* Fixed saving and loading
* Other various bug fixes and tweaks

If you're kind enough to do so, you can donate here: http://arikado.chipin.com/college-fund

Hi OArikadoO, THANK YOU for porting these classic PC fps games to the Wii..
I really appreciate your hard work and time into porting these..

would love to see more if it's possible, especially titles like.

Duke Nukem 3d atomic ed
Descent games

mmm... Descent using the wiimote tilt/rotate etc. would be awesome! (plus nunchuk for strafing movement)

also thanks heaps OArikadoO!

I'm amazed that it is actually still for sale. It's like...15 years old now? I remember buying it on floppy discs.

(I admit I downloaded it now...I have no idea where those disks are anymore...or whether it would actually still install)

In any case: thanks a lot for the update, Arikado. It's nice to have such a blast from the past.

...and it's probably nostalgia, but I think this is currently the best 3D shooter on the wii.
(doom 1 & 2 were also good...but I like heretic more)

CC support! Dude. You're so AWESOME! Later after work I'll have to replace 0.1 with this. I hope we can see more classic PC games like this with REAL control instead of a rubbish keyboard. Sorry but keyboards and me don't mix will with gaming, Especially games like "Police Quest" and the like where you have type commands, ugh. Cool to see classics live on the wii with the passion of coders. Thank you so much yet again.

Thanks for the support guys

The only other thing I can think of to really add to this port is a cheat menu or the ability to play your own background music. If there's anything else you guys want added or if you find any problems, let me know

PS: Also let me know if there's interest in me adding these 0.5 features into Hermes's Hexen port.

Own background music would be awesome!

I don't really care about a cheat menu actually. oh, 1 thing, is it possible te move and aim at the same moment with the classic controller? the game acts as if the 2 analogs are 1 or something.

I stumbled upon this one:

"W_InitMultipleFiles: no files found"

...when booting the dol. Kinda strange: last time I tried it, it worked fine.

(ran from HBC 1.0.8, with the full version .wad file in USB:\apps\hereticwii)

Could this be because I saved at one time?

Oh, and other than that, there were two smaller thingies:
1. Holding the fire button on the classic controller didn't work...which kinda nerfs the dragon claw (=the heretic equivalent of doom's minigun)
2. It's just a suggestion, but could there be an option to use the arrows for movement instead of the left joystick for the classic controller?

Cheers.

FragAguy: Worked on doing moving and aiming at the same time for a (really really really) long time and it boils down to I can't do it without rewriting a significant portion of the engine. Maybe one day I'll take another stab at it, but I could probably better spend my time further developing DOP-Mii, speeding up DeSmuME Wii, or even porting another shooter to Wii

Wever: I got that error once myself after it working fine. Tried again and it worked. USB has always been kinda dodgy for loading larger files that will be accessed a lot.

I fixed the bug with the classic controller in the SVN now. Thanks for letting me know

I also realized it existed in the Gamecube control scheme too. If you want, I can send you a boot.dol with this fix in it (or you can compile it yourself -- whatever's faster/easier for you)

For your #2 suggestion, I'd probably have to allow users to customize the controls to their preferences (the way the controls are now is preferred by most people). The easiest way to do this would be with some sort of an external configuration file. I'm experimenting with this now thanks to your suggestion.

Of course not. That would be a violation of piracy on behalf of Raven (the original makers of heretic).

You can get it with the shareware version, though. IIRC, those were also still 8 or 9 good levels.

Hi guys,

I've modded this port in order to correct the following bugs :
- Device : the game now really works either from USB or SD device ; the WAD files need to be in the same directory as the DOL application.
- Controls : the game is now quite playable with Wiimote+Nunchuk controls ; other controls (Classic Controller, Gamecube Controller) seem not to be playable.

Also, for Wiiflow plugins users, the directory where WAD files are, can now be passed as the first DOL application argument ; please mind that the trailing '/' need to be set in the Wiiflow plugin (arguments={device}:/{path}/).

Please find attached the application folder with the updated DOL application, and to whom may be interested, the source code including my changes ; mainly the wiimain.c file has been updated comparing the original package.
