Hello, I have followed several tutorials and have followed the steps to the letter to try to use usb loader gx 3.0. However, I have had no luck. I am running 4.3 U wii and the games don't even show up and I formatted the hard drive correctly and everything. I have looked at the stickys and am still confused any help would be appreciated.

Once u Load up USB Loader try to enter settings and look for Custom Path....set it to ur HD i.e : USB1/Games or USB2/WBFS and such....then exit settings and Games should show up.

Also try deleting .INI file in USB Loader GX folder so its a clean start up :)

be sure to have latest beta of USBLoaderGX (r1214 at time of writing this post).

And install the correct GameCube setup :
- if you use DIOS MIOS (USB) or DIOS MIOS Lite (SD), install version 2.9 (or 2.8 if you want disc-swapping feature).
- The ISO need to be : on the first partition of the drive, formated to FAT32, 32k Cluster size, primary partition, MBR partition type, HDD with 512byte per sector, HDD less than 2TB (because >2TB are probably 4KiB sector size).

If you use the USBloaderGX version r1214, it will detect all of these requirement and will tell you if you have something wrong.

If you have everything fine, it will boot the game.
If you see only a black screen (before DIOS MIOS splash screen), then your USB device is incompatible with DIOS MIOS, try with SD card and DIOS MIOS lite instead.
If it works from SD, then it's definitely the USB incompatibility, try with another USB device, or use Devolution instead of DM/L.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but does that mean you should have more than one partition in your hard drive?

Also when I try to load a game from USB loader gx it asks me to copy the file to my sd card. How would I change it to load from usb?

no you don't need to have multiple partitions.
It's just that some users have more than one, and often the first one is NTFS, they try to put GameCube ISO on the second partition (FAT32), but it will not work with DIOS MIOS.

If you have only one FAT32 partition, it's good :)

update USBLoaderGX.
You have an old version when only DIOS MIOS Lite + SD was possible.
If you have the Full Channel installed, launch USBLoaderGX from the homebrew channel or install the forwarder channel.

Go into the Credit page in the loader to verify that you are currently using the correct revision.

Where can I get the new one? I went to the main site and tried to get the newest one.

You got the latest stable v3.0 revision 1180 (which doesn't work with DIOS MIOS, because DIOS MIOS was released after USBLoaderGX v3.0 release date)

You need this revision :
USBLoaderGX 3.0 r1214
Thanks so much for the file. However, now instead of a black screen the wii turns off. I'm guessing that means my hd isn't compatible

try again ;)
sometime it shutdown 4-5 tries in a row, sometime it works fine and you can reset/launch another game few time in a row too.
It's a random problem (well, for some HDD it's random. Maybe your HDD is not compatible at all).

the SysCheck you used doesn't know all the DIOS MIOS version. anything above "2.6.1" is marked as "+"
even if you have 2.8 or 2.9, it will only report that you have a version "higher than 2.6.1".

To know which version you have check in USBLoaderGX r1214 credit page (settings > Credit).

To get the right version, just download it and install the Wad with a Wad manager.
