Hello,
I checked my serial number on my wii and it says this:

Your Drive Chip is most likely GC2-D2B.

Your Drive Pins are most likely not cut.

I want a Solderless so i dont have to pay a ton to get it installed.

From what i have read on hear the free clip is the best option as the wiikey is no longer updated. However i have a mac and no serial port to program the chip. Do they make adapters so i can use firewire or usb to program? I could then dual boot into windows and program the chip if that is the case. Does anyone sell the free clip ready to install so there is no need to program and i can use a dvd to update? If you cant program via usb or firewire/ buy premade what is the best chip to pick then? Thanks for the help.

A backup loader will be out soon. So don't bother with a chip.

If the backup loader is real that will be great. However from reading that topic it is clear that the games need to be patched to run. This would mean booting into windows copying over the file and patching it and it would be a pain. Im sure there will be no mac patcher. I remember UMDGen for the psp. It was a big pain to use it. A modchip is much more practical as im sure it will have better support and be simpler to use once it is installed. Thanks for trying to help though

The backup loader won't be as good as a chip, ever. Some games won't be supported, 3x read speed...If I was you, I'd get a chip. More solid, and you can update. Nintendo will patch it soon with an update, and then you won't be able to update. No MotionPlus, no WiiSpeak because you can't update.

The Free Clip programmer supports USB...

Not sure about support for mac.

I'm not sure that wiikey updates have been cut off, or if there are just no problems to fix right now!

I read up on the free clip programmer and it says it uses usb for power not to program that is what the serial port is for. If they have another programmer that does programming via usb that i missed please post a link thanks.

Know any online stores in the us who install a chip for that price or around that price? All the stores i have ever used charge much more then 25 for an install that is why i was picking the wii clip. I know i might find someone threw a forum or something like craigslist ( live in very small town far from a big city ) who will install for that price but its very risky that way. If you have a store who will do it online for around that price it would be great if i could have the link. Thanks
