So I have CFW running on a 3DS XL, but the glaring omission is that you can't run NDS roms through RXTools (if this is possible, can someone tell me how?). I do however have an OLD R4i 3DS Gold (r4ids.cn) card that had originally worked on this 3DS way back in the day. Obviously that card is no longer supported and hasn't worked on the 3DS in a long time. So now I have CFW (9.2/10.4) and have run the Flash Cart Whitelist patch on CFW on both NAND's (sys/emu) and I'm trying to get this guy running again so I can get NDS running. Problem is, I had re-purposed the Micro-SD that I had in it, so I have to re-build the data on the SD for it. So I went to r4ids.cn and grabbed the "Wood" kernel and simply unpacked the files and loaded them in the root of the SD, pop it in the cart and try to play. I DO get the "Some random Asian game" cart icon, but whenever I try to start it, whether in SysNAND or EmuNAND, I get the "An error has occurred" message and have to restart....

So the question I have is, does anyone have any experience with this and can possibly give me a hand?

The "Wood" kernel package seems to be mighty light compared to what I remember from the past. There's only the _rpg folder (+contents) and the _DS_MENU.DAT file. I seem to remember there being a crapload of other files/folders that were supposed to be on that SD. Am I missing something?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys!

Wood usually uses only those files AFAIK.
Are you sure you patched TWL_FIRM right and installed the cia on nand using fbi and not sd (replacing)?
Also are you sure you patched the right one, like the o3ds one for o3ds and n3ds for n3ds?

There is no way to run DS games from any CFW, this will be like that forever.

Sounds like the flashcart is still blocked, this has nothing to do with the wood kernel (which is just one launcher file plus a folder with some content inside as you described it).

Are you sure that you installed the DS white list properly? Which one was it? How did you go on about it?

I did flash the CIA on BOTH Sys and Emu with BigBlue... Does that part matter (i.e. not using FBI)? As well, I'm positive that I flashed the right one.. I.e. o3ds as I have a 1st gen, blue 3DS XL.

I'm sorta starting to remember that it may have very well been one of my attempts to "update" the flashcart with their flashing tools that "may" have borked me. I faintly remember trying really hard to get it running on an updated version of the 3DS and all the shenanigans involved with it, and then giving up on the same error I am experiencing now. Any idea if it's possible to "re-flash" one of these flashcarts without being able to boot into it?

    Thanks for the help.

Actually I misspoke as I am looking at it right now...

I installed to Sys and Emu with Title Manager on RX3D 0.19.49(r53511). White List file is DSFlashcardWhitelistPatch.cia - No designation as to n3ds or o3ds. I'll go see if I can track down a different version of that, though if it's possible, a link to a working one would be helpful... (not sure if it violates the TOS).

    Thanks again!

I do now know what that Whitelist cia is, I patched the TWL_FIRM cia on mine to allow flashcards, if you want to go that route you can find pre-patched TWL_FIRM cia's for both o3ds and n3ds on that iso site if you don't want to just download the right firmware cia's and patch them yourself.
Also I do not know how BBM or DevMenu work but I can't find a option to install to nand instead of sd so you will probably need fbi to install the cia's.

Thanks for the help guys! I finally got it working correctly by doing the FBI/Remove files, then re-add new versions. There was a good video on YouTube that seemed to have the answers I was looking for.

    My pleasure!

There's a link to the files he used in the description, and those worked great for me. Keep in mind, it's a o3ds xl, though I believe his instructions will work for a n3ds as well.

Let me know if you get stuck and I'll try to help.

Thanks a lot, man! I will try to do it in a while.

Yeah, I have a o3ds XL too! I will let you know how it goes.
