Hello. I need some help about my O3ds Xl. I hacked it a year ago using the boot9strap method. All this time the console worked flawlessly but from yesterday every time i power it on it suddenly powers off. Sometimes it stays opened for a few seconds or minutes but it powers off as well. I tried with formating sd card and replacing it with 3 other spare i have but the same problem. I tried also to remove the b9s and restored my system to the original but same problem. Is my 3ds dying? Any idea?

Does it work if you keep the power cord plugged in?
I tried with the power cord connected but the same problem. I realised a minute ago that my console works only in semi opened position but when i try to full open the console suddenly turns off.

Sorry i mean semi opened like

Maybe a loose or broken ribbon?
How can i check? Can i replace the ribbon or the whole upper screen?

And if it is broken? Are there ribbon replacement on ebay or somewhere else. If so are they legit or working and combatible?

Depends on if that's the issue. If parts are needed though, you should be able to find whatever you need on either ebay or aliexpress.

This is never a solution!
  • You probably have a hardware problem so it does not make a difference.
  • If you had a software problem, removing B9S means removing access all tools for troubleshooting.

For disassembly refer to ifixit.
Use the correct screwdriver. If it does not fit you might strip the screws.
After removing the back cover (careful when opening (L) and (R) are connected with small ribbons) carefully inspect all ribbons and connectors. It might be a loose cable. The small flaps holding the ribbons in place are fragile. Open them with care and never use much force.
If one of the cables is (slightly) torn, you will have to replace the part. (every part comes with it’s cable attached). Replacing only the actual cable is probably impossible anyway.

Replacing anything in the upper half is a pain. What the guide on ifixit does not mention is complete disassembly of the hinge to separate the upper and lower half completely. Again: Replacing the upper screen or the big cable for speakers and 3DS-slider, the camera or the upper screen is not an easy task.
In addition to ifixit, I suggest watching some videos about this.
