Hacking Help getting started with 5.4u

I am sorry to start a new thread for this, since there is so much information, but I am a little confused since there is so much information.

I have been contemplating hacking off and on since I bought the family a Wiiu for christmas. We are on 5.4u. I would like to hack my wiiu and I forget the word, but trick it into thinking it has the latest firmware so I can access online and play the newest games.

Should I follow this guide first?

I saw some other guides which is why I am confused. Also what is it app do I run to trick it into thinking I am on the newest firmware and can someone show me to the guide for running it? Thanks

Yes, that guide is fine. Just follow it; literally nothing can go wrong, as nothing you do is permanent.

EDIT: In order to spoof to the latest version, look up WUP Installer.

Yes, what you are trying to do is spoof your console. Basically, what you need to do is use a NUS downloader program to retrieve the 5.5.1 version data, and then use WUP Installer to install it to your console. This fixes most version checks, allowing you to access online features with lowered risks of updating (don't quote me on that last part).

The threads at the top of the main forum screen (sticky threads) should answer most beginner questions, but if you need help with anything, feel free to PM me. (That goes to anyone).

Thanks for the replies everyone. I soft modded my original wii way back when it was first released and there was a chance to brick, which is why I am a little hesitant. Logan Pockrus said when I follow that guide nothing is permanent.
Are you reffering to making the wiiu hackable? What about if I spoof? I remember reading some time ago, that people were afraid to spoof since you can't go back.

So if I am understanding this correctly with my past research and the responses in this thread. My first step would be to use the guide in my original post and this would not install anything on my system, but instead access it from where I am hosting it from? So does this mean if I cannot host from a website and have to host from say my computer I would have the computer running anytime I want the wiiu to be hackable?

If I do the tutorial and I am hosting the files and my wiiu is now hackable, I can install apps and that would change my wiiu. So if I have it hackable and spoof it to the newest system, would that be permanent? Would I be able to access online and the newer games without having to host the files on my computer and making the wiiu "hackable"?

Yes, most things on the Wii U are currently NOT permanent, and will be removed from memory when you shut down your console.
(Let's say that you wanted to play a game in Loadiine GX2, you installed Loadiine, played your game and then shut down your console. When you turned it back on, Mii Maker had returned, ad you need to re-install Loadiine GX2)

The only thing that's permanent is installation of titles performed by WUP Installer (including the firmware spoof). If you have any doubts, don't do it. The firmware spoof will not unlock anything new (in terms of homebrew), all the homebrew will still be based on temporary installations, all spoofing allows you to do is let your console pretend that its on the latest firmware, allowing online play and eShop access.

What are the negatives to spoofing? I have installed plenty of wads on my original wii with no problem. If I spoof and did a firmware upgrade in the future will this overwrite the spoof?

The update would overwrite the version.bin file, thus removing the spoof.

Not known at the moment, but there is speculation about unknown seconadary effects such as being unable to update or being banned. Nothing of this has happened as from now, but as i said, there is speculation about it.

Great thanks for the help everyone. So I plan to spoof my wiiu. I have ran a few exploits now using Team Fails quick start tutorial. I was able to get Pong working just fine. Just to be certain I wanted to ask on here first, since it didn't explain running wupinstaller in his tutorial.

Would I just run wupinstaller like I did the pong app? From there what should I expect? I am guessing it will ask if I want to install the spoof.

Running WUPInstaller is not like running pong. In order to run WUPInstaller, you will need to install the Homebrew Launcher (just do a quick search for it). Inside the Homebrew Launcher, you can launch a WUPInstaller program from your SD Card, and use it to install the version.bin from your SD Card (or something like that, see the threads at the top of the screen if you need more help with this, as I haven't needed to do this).
