I have successfully completed the first step of installing HBC and Bootmii (boot 2), and also backed up the NAND on my Wii which had been updated to 4.3u. No problems, whew. I used the following info sources for education:

http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/ha...guide/4-3-guide
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_setup

and most importantly

http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-g...tmod-guide.html

I plan on sticking with the guide in the last link to the end. But while these tutorials tell you how to get the necessary tasks done, they don't explain how this stuff WORKS. So here are a few questions before I move to the next stage:

1) Am I married to this particular SD card? I mean, I can copy the NAND backup files to my PC and copy them later to another SD card, can't I? I used a 1GB microSD to do this tonight but I want to get a 2GB regular SD for regular use because I plan on using emulators/roms and what-not. I now this is an idiot question, but after that block-by-block scan on the SD by Bootmii before the NAND backup I want to make sure.

2) Does the SD card need to be in the Wii all the time? I know that also sounds stupid, but if the SD is in there it boots to the screen that goes Wii/HBC/SD/Tools and that'll be mighty awesome if the day ever comes that my Wii bricks, but for everyday use it's cumbersome. Can I use one SD for all my everyday homebrew data needs, and keep the NAND files on another SD? What files trigger the Wii/HBC/SD/Tools screen?

I guess that's it for now. So far so good, but I'll probably have more questions when I get to all this cIOS, mcIOS, and WAD stuff.

[Butthead] uuh..hehuh ... he said WAD[/Butthead]

1. Copy the nand.bin and keys.bin to your PC and then you can delete the files.
2. If you dont have the sd card in the wii it just boots as normal. The files in SD:/bootmii/ make bootmii show up.

Thanks. So, if I add apps such as emus and a backup launcher, will the SD that these are installed to need to have the bootmii directory on it? Or is my HBC capable of installing new homebrew to an SD without bootmii present? I'd like to avoid that bootmii screen when powering on the Wii, but still want to be able to play backups and SNES.

Bootmii is completely optional and not required for any apps other than itself. To avoid the bootmii screen at startup, you have a few options. The easiest would be to either back up the bootmii folder to your computer, or just rename the folder on the sd card to something other than bootmii.
