Sorry guys I had to make an account only to ask how to remove the autoupdate function of HBC 1.0.8. Im quite fine with 1.0.7 and dont want to bother anymore (headaches after 2 weeks intense wii scene training)
just ban hackmii.com in router for IP assigned for Wii. That's how i did. I have both 1.0.6 and 1.0.7 without complaining for update.
If you don't use router, well suck it according to TT

Well this stuff should be discussed on wiibrew forums since this move affects it's users... not gbatemp users...

Talking about or using the word "backup", "cios" and stuff is not allowed there... Now with the current move talking about patching an ios would be prohibited because it would be an unnecessary thing to run homebrew programs... Hence the cleaning...

TT is wrong though thinking that keeping people away from this dark side knowledge will make them more secure... Instead this "discussion of blah blah blah is prohibited" policy is just hurting their end users. It just produces a naive crowd that once steps into the dark side gets easily lost...

This or similar moves will not decrease the brick figures at all... It will just increase the number of naive end users getting lost in alternative sites seeking information for their very basic needs..

Again, why is a cIOS or the installation of a cIOS so "dangerous"? A cIOS or an installation procedure of a cIOS is not more "dangerous" than the installation of a clean IOS58. The only difference between those installations is that in order to install a cIOS, you need at least one IOS with trucha bug and NAND Access. I never heard of a case, in which someone bricked his/her Wii during the installation procedure of a cIOS.

then you haven't spend much time on Wiibrew forums, there are tons of examples of people bricking their Wii after having followed a "guide" that told them to install tons of stuff they eventually didn't need
You just got done accusing someone else of 'distorting' words, yet here you are turning one or two procedures into 'installing tons of stuff'. I won't waste my time explaining how you distorted my own words too though.

I was a 'noob' when I modded my Wii and a few others, but I didn't just idiotically jump right into it because I knew I didn't have $200 or whatever we paid to replace the family Wii should I have fucked it up, which I haven't despite having installed several cIOS's. Why is it the 'idiot' part of 'idiot pirates' would get the brunt of the shit from TT, while the 'idiot' in 'idiot noob' gets a free ride? FFS, that's one thing that's wrong with this fucking world. We dumb down everything and then spoonfeed it to people. Whatever happened to survival of the fittest?

I agree with WiiCrazy. It's already way to late to prevent people reaching the "Dark Side." Stuff has been on Wii's for a while now and it basically advertises itself. Not only that, but they are putting them in a position where it makes its end-users feel paranoid and wanting to revert to earlier homebrew channels. Actions are weakening the bond between the homebrew community of developers and end-users with uncertainty.

I hope a mod locks this thread os deletes some of the spam I can't be arsed reading through it all

I hoped this topic would be people talking about the new features of the HBC, bugs and ideas of how to theme it and add args to things. But instead well we've got a wasted thread.

No disrespect to anyone, but can we get back onto the topic of the new HBC ?

CIOSCORP = tons of stuff imo
but you have to admit it, most guides have utterly complicated steps when all people wants is to install HBC then load emulators/media player, they don't need to patch their system menu, downgrade an IOS, patch another one, etc...
I'm not talking about the average Wii user here, I'm talking about noobs that don't have any clue of what's going on behind these steps and are only looking for easy-to-use guide and an introduction into homebrew

I don't know where I distorted your own words though, you asked me some questions about my logic and I answered to you

So have any emulators been disabled? What about gutiars on fire? Media player? DVD player (trying to fix the error now so I can get my Wii to read DVD's)? Link me to the list please and if they disabled biblequiz I WILL sue them in the name of God. No joke. All I want is a link and I am OUT of here for good.

Thats bullshit. A "softmod" which is used in many guides basicly contains these steps:

1.) Install HBC, BootMii via HackMii Installer -----> Safe, no brick risk

2.) Enable trucha and NAND Access on IOS36 ------> Safe, no brick risk

3.) Install a cIOS via IOS36 -----> Safe, no brick risk

4.) Copy emulators and media players to SD Card ----> Very Safe, no brick risk

There you have it. There are also optional softmodding steps like the installation of Priiloader and such, but those are not needed necessary.

The new HBC has been working perfectly so far since 1.0.7

I am not sure what did it, but my internet usage was broken after 1.0.3 and until 1.0.6 (never ending light blinking). When loading apps such as the Homebrew browser, it would sometimes take up to 20 times of re-trying connections to finally work. I know the position of the wii was not the problem, there was litttle interference and every connection test was successful from the Wii settings menu. However, with 1.0.7 and 1.0.8 not only does it establish a connection fast, apps such as homebrew browser are loading on their first connection attempt. I don't know if this has relations with the Homebrew channel or the fact I had a very low version IOS 36 (trucha patched too for reloader on Gecko) but I basically updated both of them at the same time and now it's working perfect.

It was a piece of cake installing IOS 58 and updating to 1.0.8. While I plan on migrating all my SD stuff to my USB drive to test the USB portion of the homebrew channel, I figure I'll get that done one random week I am bored. Also, I want to attempt to make a homebrew skin. I am demotivated to do this because I like the newer default skin (on 1.0.7 and 1.0.8) but it would be nice to add some customizating touches too it. However, I am not an artist and I am far away from it so I guess I'll wait on that.

I tried using the rebooter of gecko OS to enable debugger and connect with USB gecko, but unfortunately I get DSI errors.

Do you think it's possible to connect the gecko with homebrew apps? That should be a new function, load homebrew apps with debugger and hooks

I wish when people made blanket statments like the above, they'd take the time to explain their reasoning or the technicalities. First of all, 'they aren't'? Since you say 'they', I assume that doesn't include 'you', in which case how do you know what they are really going to be doing.
Because svpe said in this very thread they wouldn't.

For all you know, Nintendo has finally responded to their 'reaching out' while also reaching for their checkbook. Everyone has a price.
Paranoid much?

Everyone. Do they release their source code, and if not, no one can say with 100% certainty what their app can or cannot do. And I'd find it hard to believe that an app that 'phones home' every time it runs couldn't blacklist certain apps if they chose to do so.
They don't release their source for their installer because it woul be easy for Nintendo to blok it if they did ad the don't release the source for the actual channel, because scammers would take it, remove all the scam warnings and reompile it.
And how would you go about blocking apps? They could be recompiled in a second, so the work again.

Do you know what 'statistics' they transmit back home, or whatever else they feel like?
Yes we do know what say sen home. Everbod can know it. You just have to capture the traffic between the Wii and the internet. Not exactly hard to do. And it's just an anonymous user statistic that doesn't send what programs you use.

I won't dignify the rest of your post with a response, I already waste enough time...
And should svpe eventually be proven wrong? What's going to happen? Absolutely nothing, as I already said.

As for the paranoid comment, can you prove it hasn't happened? Isn't going to ever happen? Can't possibly happen? No, of course you can't. Or do you think so, and that TT was just a bunch of idiots for even trying? marcan has already said other console hackers HAVE indeed done the same, but met with a bit more success. But I guess you've got a crystal ball and know everything that TT and Nintendo are going to do. Must be nice.
laugh.gif

How would they go about blocking, or blacklisting apps? Well, I guess svpe could technically get around his statement by having TT whitelist known approved apps, no blacklisting necessary. Genius, huh?
rolleyes.gif

If you know what they send home, why must you be so ambiguous in your answer. I already said it was 'statistics' of some sort. Saying what it isn't doesn't exactly answer what it is, does it?

You just fail it. They don't care about piracy. They just don't want to support it on their size,

What is WiiSCU again? And ok that is just ONE app (DOP-MII) that they deleted. What about the whole general page of apps that it deleted?

http://hackmii.com/2010/08/the-usb2-release/ doesn't state the apps that were deleted. By God I am ready to sue whoever deleted the apps. Is HBC like a black market? I don't see how it is because Nintendo already is communist with their equal class-less skill-less gameplay with NO forms of competiton at all. This is why HBC exists on the Wii to bypass that political faction that Nintendo is affiliated with.

I guess that depends on whose definition of piracy you'd like to use, TT's or Nintendo's.

+1
I updated to 1.0.8 without thinking as soon as I saw it on hbc but I will probably never update again.
