Update: It's live! You can the updated boot.3dsx get from here:
http://smealum.github.io/3ds/

If you're using themehax, you need to wait for yellows8 to update or manually use the updated payloads. Alternatively use browserhax.

There's been a lot of threads on this I know, but to sum it up here's the mostly complete list of things that are coming with *hax 2.5 in once place:

  • regionFIVE
    • You can choose which region regionFIVE runs games in.
  • Speed bost
    • Homebrew applications can now get upto 188MB RAM on the new3DS and 80MB on the old3DS
    • new3DS users can get a speed boost, including regionFIVE.
  • eShop spoofing
  • Rom patching
    • ROM hacking possible: see the video above for an example with pk3DS
  • Sleep mode works
  • Power button turns the console off within homebrew apps
  • Screenshots can be taken by pressing the HOME button if the app is launched from the homebrew menu, including regionFIVE.
  • You can return to the homebrew menu after you've launched something with L+R+B+Down.
  • Homebrew can access the DSP now (?)

Why not wait until the actual release and smealums release notes instead of half assing a thread based on speculation?

It was for the most part confirmed already prior to me making the thread. I accidentally posted this before the release, but it's released now anyhow :)

As a heads-up, I had to re-install the Ironhax exploit in order to get everything working. You can still boot into the homebrew menu if you copy over the files, but it seems like the new payload features need you to update the exploit. Not hard to do, but if you copied over the files and find sleep mode isn't working, that's probably why.

Anyway I just got into the eShop, so that's cool

Two dumb things.

1) How do I download or make ROM hacks for this? How do I decrypt from a 3DS ROM, with only a 10.1 3DS?
2) Would it be possible to...
- Replace stuff with, say, kernel exploit and "run" with patched new files that let me kernel or whatever?
- Replace one game (say, Mario 3D Land) in whole with another game (say, New Super Mario Bros. 2)?
- Someone make a tool to auto generate VC injection payloads?
- "ROMhack" the eShop to install CIAs with its permissions? Maybe legal ones?

By "ROM hacking" you're able to edit the game resources as they go into memory. You can't actually change the game logic or anything else, so installing CIAs with the eshop won't happen. Depending on what game you're using, people have made ROM hacking tools that you can use (like pk3DS).

You can't replace games for pretty much the same reason.

Neobrain hasn't released his save dumper yet, so decrypting them is still not possible although it will be.

And no, it can't be used as a means to get kernel privileges without an exploit. It's just an entry point.

How to set the path for HANS? Is it 'SD:\<Title ID>\romfs.bin' or 'SD:\HANS\<Title ID>\romfs.bin'?
