The wii has a limited pixel aspect ratio or clock, and the Wii U just upscales VWii unless its told not to. Which breaks the functionality of the games or Wii its self since they display in a panoramic image if its not synced with the tv.

CTR is old cable (box tv.) Also used on the DS, DSi, and New Nintendo 3ds systems. That's all I can really say. Beyond that the TV is what really makes up the graphics and aspect ratio. The Wii/Wii U/Switch Hardware does matter. Just when its not optimized.

Literally everything you just said in here is wrong.

Do you mean "CRT" (Cathode Ray Tube)? Nintendo DS/DSi/3DS most definitely do NOT use a CRT. None of anything you have said is specific to CRTs, and has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the Wii can output 1080p (it can't).

What lol, Ds, Dslite, DSi, and 3ds do not use Composite, that's just silly.
Composite is for tv's, and last time I checked, ds family don't simply hook up to the tv. They drive their own Lcds, because it's a handheld.

Wii Cannot output 1080, End of discussion. The AVE(Audio Video Encoder) on the wii can only go up to 480i using COMPONENT(not Composite)
There is wii hardware in a wii u, it renders it slightly better, but pretty much 1:1 the "upscaling" is done from the tv

the opposite (and only because of an artificial limitation + the fact 99% of common peoples' TVs wouldn't support that)

and the WiiU can actually upscale Vwii - though depending on who you ask it's not much better than leaving the console on 480 and leaving it to the display

Ah yes the DS, DSi and 3DS all use CRT screens as evidenced by the fact that their battery life is only a few minutes, they weigh about 10lbs and are about a foot thick.

Wait...

Artist rendition of a Smasher [Circa 2014]

The old god's of Smash used to roam the lands preaching the word of Melee. Carrying CRTs up mountains and modifying their controllers for a slight edge in competition. Everyone feared the Fox but embraced it as well.

Wat the hell are you even talking about? Sounds like you're either trolling or talking out your ass about something you don't know about.

Please link a picture or website that shows what a "CTR" is, because right now nothing of what you're saying makes sense.
I'm not sure what else I can link to besides a website talking about SCART cables and VGA interface. Really CTR Cables are just those mono television cables you see in what looks like... Cable box tvs?

Its the one on the top. But its similar resmblence is like that. Only few have been made in the world shortly after HDMI or cable TV. (Whichever came first.)

I think its called a Scarlet Cable. But the cable only uses a male to female plug and displays output consecutivey only. Without getting into any other change of topics. The plug was only offered and available near North America and Brazil.

Its obsoleted though unless you program it to something like a game that utilizes contrast and consecutive images though. Its creepy as it sounds horrific.

Some monitors have a refresh rate set in. Some don't.

That's a coaxial cable, aka "RF". I have no idea where you came up with "CTR".

Incidentally, coax *can* carry HD video using the ATSC and DVB standards. There's no reasonably priced consumer equipment to generate these signals, but they're available from broadcast and cable TV providers.

They do work but they ruin the console, if you want true HDMI you could try using the AV Cables and adjust the color or contrast of the TV, and then use a plug that comes with the Wii (I think its the other AV Cable that's white.) Your going to find out quickly that the Wii can display 1080p by 1080i but it cannot display beyond 4k because the color and contrast stretch out to much.

So, your really out of options if you want to use HDMI, but if your using HDMI right now just stick with the USB Plug until you find something else or stumble upon RGB (or also CTR Cables in Europe.) Cables for MKWii.
Are you talking about loosing color information at the high end of the signal? That's probably because your contrast is set too high, and your loosing white and color detail. Clouds loose detail and become one big white blob. You can display test patterns that lets you monitor in real time how the contrast controls affects the high end of the signal, to find the maximum contrast you can set.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
