I've been browsing various drives for a while and user reviews for most every drive are pretty conflicting. Can anyone suggest a good model of drive (SATA or IDE). I need at least 500G but anything over 750G is probably too expensive for me to justify.

Right now I am eying the Hitachi Deskstar 7K500.

Also I need an SATA card for my old motherboard. Any suggestions there as well?

I second that. It's the best drive out there at the moment.

Stripe a pair up for unfathomable speed.
