And the fact Haxchi requires an original & compatible DS game in the first place

    some precisions :

    3) like Kafluke said, if you install WUP installer as a channel, you will need to run a custom firmware first. you can't launch "non legal" channels without first patching the signature check function (commonly called : sigpatch).
But you can perfectly use WUP installed as homebrew (not as channel) launched from the Homebrew launcher.
the homebrew launcher runs automatically when you perform the browser hack.

Browser -> Homebrew launcher -> Either signature patcher OR wup installer homebrew (or both, if you plan to install a DLC or eshop game)

if you want to launch a non legit/legal channel, you'll need to always perform the browser->HBL->signature patcher, first.

    4)
    Mocha is not installable.
Mocha is only a homebrew you run from the Homebrew launcher.
Haxchi need a NDS game to be installed, but Mocha require only the browser hack.

Mocha is unnecessarily longer and heavier to just patch the signature and play a game.
I recommend you use "simple signature patcher" instead of Mocha if you want a temporary method to patch the signature. no need to use mocha just for that.

Simple signature patcher has 2 different version :
sigpatch return to hbl : this one patch the signature function, and reload the homebrew launcher automatically, so you can run another homebrew right away. (usually, WUP installer)
sigpatch return to sysmenu : this one patch the signature function, and returns to wiiu menu so you can launch a channel.
They are doing the same thing, it's just a convenient way for you to reload the console based on what you want to do next (launch another homebrew, or play a game)
The signature patch is kept in memory until you shutdown the console or go into the console settings.

Note that haxchi doesn't lose CFW if you go into the settings.

You can install haxchi from the browser hack, but you FIRST need to buy an official NDS game.
NEVER install haxchi on a non bought, installed with wup installer, NDS game.

I have a problem installing HLB on Wii U 5,5,2, as Channel since although after a few tries the exploit works. But if I want to run WUP Installer I need to run Mocha first, but for this to work, i need the exploit to work the second time, which never does in a row.

That's why you should use HaxChi!

When you perform the browser hack, what's it's doing is this :
    - patch the console to enable kernel's level access (allow you to edit the console's memory, run homebrew, etc.)
    - insert the "homebrew launcher" launcher code into the miimaker channel.
    - launch Miimaker channel, which boots the "homebrew_launcher.elf" file on your SD card.

If you are on your system menu and want to go back to the homebrew launcher, DO NOT do the browser hack a second time, it will freeze !
    just launch MiiMaker channel ;)

But, you should really (really) just setup Haxchi if you are on 5.5.2, as the browser exploit is not as reliable as 5.5.1 browser's hack.

    Haxchi is doing this :
    - patch the kernel's level access
    Then, either:
    A) sysmenu
    - patch signature check
    - patch region free
    - patch IOS (to access NAND, USB, etc. using ftpiiu_everywhere)
    - patch system menu to keep the kernel's level access and all patches even if you go into the console's settings
    B) optionaly, based on your config.txt and assigned button/path :
    - launch homebrew assigned to the button you pressed while launching haxchi channel (for example, homebrew_launcher.elf) so you don't need to install HBL channel!

so, install haxchi. After each reboot:
launch it once to patch the console into CFW (if needed)
launch it a second time with the assigned button kept pressed to launch homebrew_launcher.elf on your SD card

    OK, so to confirm

1 - Haxchi (or any other CFW) CANNOT be installed JUST using BrowserHax

    Correct?

If it cant, then the Wii U isnt for me and sadly Switch doesnt have anything as of right now.

You really need to read through the whole noob guide. We've answered your questions as clearly as possible and you still don't seem to get it.

Whenever you run any type of homebrew you have to first run a "hack" or entry point. These aren't permanent (unless you install CBHC). They are not "installed". They are just run for that session until you reboot.

The next time you restart your Wii u you will have to run the hack again to run homebrew or DLC or any custom channels etc.

HaxChi is the easiest but Browserhax is free. You'll have to run browserhax at least once if you want to install HaxChi but never again after that. If you restart your Wii u you will have to tap HaxChi once to hack your Wii u before you can enter HBL or WUP Installer or any other homebrew, DLC or eshop game.

    Makes sense?

The noob guide says that I can either run BrowserHax or Haxchi as "entry points". Once those entry points are installed, I can then install the HBC and homebrew, run backups, etc. without the need to do it every time I reboot the Wii U.

I honestly thing the noob guide should reword this a bit better (more so, the starting chart)

OK, so I run BrowserHax and install HaxChi. Do I have to run BrowserHax after each restart of the Wii U, if I install HaxChi, in order to play backups?

I can work on that but i dont think it says what you think it does.

Anyway yes you're correct, once you install HaxChi you won't need to run browserhax anymore. You will have to tap HaxChi and run it every time you want to run WUP Installer to install a game (unless you install CBHC) but if you just want to play the game you won't need to tap HaxChi first (unless your game has unpurchased DLC)

    Then...if I read you correctly.

    I RUN Browserhax ONCE
    I install HaxChi ONCE
    I install CBHC ONCE

After all that process ONCE, I can then reboot the Wii and install my backups and play my backups without any issues? Or do I have to AGAIN tap HaxChi every time I want to install or play a backup game?

again, once your backups are installed you don't need to ever tap HaxChi or anything. You can just play them normally unhacked. This is true unless you download unpurchased DLC. In that case you will either have to tap HaxChi once before playing or setup CBHC to autoboot system menu (HaxChi CFW)

    The

    and

Are the things that are causing confusion.

I dont mean that in a bad way (excuse me if my intentions are read that way, at the end of the day this is a forum and you cant understand tone of voice) but I think that is where I am getting confused.

    So then I:

    I RUN Browserhax ONCE
    I install HaxChi ONCE
    I install CBHC ONCE
Setup CBHC to autoboot system menu (HaxChi CFW)

With this method, unpurchased DLC, Wii games, etc., whatever other combination that you can think of, am I limited in any way shape or form? And all of this, my starting point/entry is just BrowserHax

The reason I ask this, is because I want to play a backup of New Super Mario Bros. U but I dont want to be limited by not being able to play New Super Luigi U (for example) or any other DLC (there is a standalone version I know, but just want to make it clear)

Im sorry for repeating so much Kafluke I just want to fully understand everything :)

Yes you're correct. Using CBHC will be just like installing a mod chip on an xbox back in the day. You just turn on your Wii U and you're in CFW. You're not limited at all. Just use Wii U USB Helper and download away. You'll be good to go.

So to be clear. Here's the steps:

    1. Install HaxChi (read the noob guide)
    2. Install CBHC (read the noob guide)
    3. ???
    4. Profit

I was going to post the steps lol....give me a sec....

    — Posts automatically merged - Please don't double post! —

1: Run BrowserHax (Old Method: Browserhax then Homebrew Launcher). https://github.com/WiiUTest/JsTypeHax download this, VM with Apache and port 80. It might freeze so Id have to try it a few times.
2: Here is the bit of a loss...Im trying to install ONLY HaxChi using the BrowserHax entry point (without any DS game). My goal is Browserhax then HaxChi and then Homebrew Launcher
3: This is just changing the SD:\HaxChi\config.txt file on the SD

You cannot install HaxChi without a valid DS game. It won't work

    — Posts automatically merged - Please don't double post! —

HaxChi uses a valid DS game to work. You still have to use Browserhax once to install HaxChi but you MUST purchase a DS game for HaxChi to work. It won't even install without it.

If you don't want to buy a DS game then you're stuck using browserhax as an entry point every time you restart your Wii u

LOL, this is what I have been talking about from post 1...Thats why I repeatedly said the same thing over and over again :) to make sure you and others understand.

Then the noob guide is incorrect; Step 2 are equal directions in the flow chart. If I go thru the flowchart and choose the direction of BrowserHax, I can reach the part where it says "Did you install HaxChi?" and it says I can install HaxChi CFW and CBHC

Im sorry Kafluke but that flow guide is incorrect and it needs to be pointed out that in order to install HaxChi, a valid DS game must be bought. This is necessary and required to be added.

The bit about using JUST BrowserHax and needing to rerun the hack everytime the Wii is rebooted would be nice as well.

Thanks for the input. There's other things in the flow chart that need to be updated as well but the instructions in the steps are still correct. It tells you when you choose HaxChi that it requires a DS game. It also tells you in the browserhax section that you have to run it every time you want to run homebrew. What I said is still true about game backups using WUP Installer method. You only need to run browserhax in order to get into the homebrew launcher then you can install your game with WUP Installer. You don't need to run browserhax to actually play the game unless it has non purchased DLC or the game itself never existed as a disc game.

"Did you install HaxChi?" and it says I can install HaxChi CFW and CBHC"

That's still relevant, you can install HaxChi CFW IF you installed HaxChi first. HaxChi and HaxChi CFW are not the same thing. One is an entry point and the other is CFW. If you followed the instructions to install HaxChi (not HaxChi CFW) then you would have been told to buy a DS game.

This was the very first reply. We answered your question right up front in the thread. You can use ONLY browserhax but it's better to use HaxChi and spend less than 10 bucks

You can browse the exploit from a smartphone who can create hotspot without internet connection. The diference is, you need maybe try triggrer the exploit more than one time like henkaku for vita. Once was sucessfull you can use as same way a ds triggered.

Your first question (and thread's title) is : can I use ONLY the browser exploit. and we answered many times : YES, you can.
but it's a little unreliable, and you might have to try it few times until it works and the console doesn't freeze.
To get a more reliable (100% working) entry point to homebrew, you can use haxchi, or cbhc (which is still haxchi but auto-launched at console boot for lazy people).

    What is haxchi?
Haxchi is a hack which replace a NDS rom inside a NDS game's virtual console.
You need a retail NDS game to even launch it without doing a previous hack.
if you install haxchi to a non-bought/pirated NDS game, then you'll need the browser hack to launch a CFW to patch signature check function to be able to launch haxchi, which defeat the purpose of haxchi : not using the unreliable browser hack.

console boot -> system menu -> signed browser -> browser entry point hack -> Homebrew
console boot -> system menu -> signed NDS game -> Haxchi entry point hack -> CFW or Homebrew
console boot -> system menu -> unsigned NDS game
console boot -> system menu -> signed browser -> browser entry point hack -> homebrew -> signature patcher -> unsigned NDS game -> Haxchi entry point hack -> CFW or Homebrew

    What is CBHC?
CBHC is haxchi, but launched at console boot by the console instead of being launched by yourself from system menu.

console boot -> signed NDS game -> haxchi entry point hack -> CFW -> system menu
console boot -> unsigned NDS game -> Bricked console ! no more system menu access...

Can you use browser hack only?
If you don't want to buy a (good signed) NDS game:
you can do the browser hack to access the homebrew launcher. if you don't need the homebrew launcher, you don't even need to do the browser hack after a reboot.
that's the point : You DO NOT ALWAYS need to do the browser hack. you don't always need homebrew or CFW !

To play legit games, you don't need browser hack, you don't need haxchi, you don't need CBHC, you don't need CFW !
so, it's not an issue to use the unreliable browser hack once in a while.

you need browser hack only to run homebrew (example: to install a game), or to play a non legit content (game with a DLC you didn't bought, eShop game bought to be used on another console, game from another region).
You don't need browser hack to play game with a legit key.

    what is a legit game?
legit and legal are two different things.
here, legit means the console get what it expects and runs it without the need to patch anything.
The console check if a game is for the correct console. game disc are working on ALL consoles, so if you install a dump of a disc, the console will see "consoleID : ALL" and because the data is not altered by anyone, the signature is good and the console launches the game.

If you install a game originating from eShop (a game which doesn't exist as disc version), the "consoleID information" of the game contains the console ID which bought the game.
If the console check the game's data and see another consoleID, it refuses to launch the game.
To launch on your console, the data need to be changed to "consoleID : ALL" or "consoleID : Your current console ID here".
By editing this game's data, it breaks the signature and the console knows you are trying to mess with it. You need the console's "signature check" function to be patched by a homebrew to force the console to accept the game even if the signature fails to verify.

So, multiple cases to you :
    Install
install a disc based game : browser hack > wup installer > install the game
install a disc based game from another region : browser hack > wup installer > install the game. (the signature is good, you can install it)
install a eShop based data (game/DLC) : browser hack > signature patcher homebrew (not haxchi or cbhc) > wup installer

    Play
play a disc based game : nothing needed, power the console and just play !
play a disc based game from another region : browser hack > signature patcher with region free > optionally run Spiik homebrew to patch region string > play the game
play a game with non legit data (dlc, eshop) : browser hack > signature patcher with region free > optionally run Spiik homebrew to patch region string > play the game
Play a game with mixed free and non free DLC : there's a trick to put the free DLC's data to a specific location to let the console launch the game without signature patch. Power the console and play!

    Other
access NAND : browser hack > Mocha CFW > ftpiiu_everywhere

Is the browser that much unreliable?
It's random, so it could work on the first try, or on 20th try.
the browser hack used by 5.5.1 was also random, but had more success rate than the browser hack used by 5.5.2

There's a way to replace the browser version to use 5.5.1 hack on 5.5.2 firmware, but you'll need signature check to even launch the old browser while being on firmware 5.5.2, defeating your situation of just wanting to use browser hack without haxchi. (you would need a different entry point for homebrew before launching a non signed browser hack).
