I'm having trouble getting the hack to show up on my sd card.

I'm on a PAL wii and I've put the rzdp0 file into my SD, renaming it as data.bin.

Have I done something wrong? It's in the folder private/wii/title/RZDP

Rename the file rzdp0.bin to data.bin then it will work. Just make sure to follow the twilight hack instructions closely. Took me a while at first too.

That's what I've done and it's not showing up :/

I've tried numerous times and it still hasn't worked...

Is your folder structure correct? I did /title/wii instead of /wii/title my first try. Double check that if you haven't

Also try a different version of the save file/hack. Such as rzde2.bin if you havnen't already.

File stucture should be /private/wii/title/RZDE/ when it wurkt fur me.

Okay guys, so I was just browsing my wii menu full of freshly-installed vc games, and when I turn the page the screen goes black and I get the error message 'the system files have been corrupted, please refer to teh instructions for instructions' and I was like

I restarted my wii and everything was just dandy, but it scared the crap outta me. What was that all about?

Can't seem to install anything

I have the Wii Homebrew Channel (time-hacked) version installed - booting boot.elf using that on a PAL console.

It loads the WAD installer, asks to press reset. After pressing reset it appears to crash, listing many numbers in sequence GPR01 00000000 GPR08 8000000 etc.

I've tried a 4GB non-SDHC SD Card [formatted FAT32]. A 2GB Sandisk MicroSD in an SD Adapter. A 512MB Sandisk MicroSD in an SD Adapter. Both formatted FAT16.

Don't have any other SD cards to hand to try out

I've also tried loading the WAD installer through Zelda - same thing happens. tbh because the installer loads through the homebrew channel and gets to the "Press Reset" message - I don't think the Homebrew Channel loader is at fault. It happens after pressing reset.

Any ideas - think it's just SD card related? I've formatted them multiple times so *shrugs*

What SD cards are other people using to get this running?

You currently cannot run the WAD installer using the homebrew channel, time-hacked or not. Although they are going to release a new version of the homebrew channel which looks very sexy.

The only way to install wads using the current version of the homebrew channel is to; run a homebrew loader such as mag loader using the homebrew channel, and from the homebrew loader boot the wad installer.

Thats the method I use to install VC games because I don't acctually have TP, if you want me to add a tutorial for that method then I will when I get round to it.

Dude... this is a tutorial for installing using the Twilight hack. It works for both PAL and NTSC machines. Just make sure that you get the european TP save data from the link in step 1.

or you can download the homebrew launcher channel and launch the wad installer that way.

Damn - all that time spent and this is the very first time I read that it's not bootable on the homebrew channel.

Odd thing is a few weeks ago I couldn't even get it running using the TP hack - though I didn't try so hard then.

Strange - I thought simply loading the wad installer would mean proper initialization of the FAT libs, etc and proper running of any software - i.e. everything's the same as it was when running TP.

There's a WAD installer channel available now - presumably once the wad installer channel is on the system it'd be easy enough to install the wads, etc?

I'll ty the homebrew loader and see how things go.

Right - thank you peeps
smile.gif
worked a treat from the TP hack!

Odd that the homebrew loader channel would be any different to the TP hack tbh. Saying that - I did also rename the files to smaller 8.3 filenames [shouldn't make a difference though, but still.]

Installed the WAD installer and uninstaller channels and everything works well through that
smile.gif
No need to swap Zelda savegames anymore!

Edit: doesn't matter if the files are renamed - long filenames work too [just shows up as 8:3 anyway].

It seems that the homebrew loader channel has issues with lots of FAT based SD Card homebrew. Probably broken somewhere.

Nobody asked for it - but I'll TLDR my thoughts anyway:

To be perfectly honest I'm disappointed with VC - and I'm REALLY glad I got the chance to try them out without shelling out money. Nintendo OUGHT to make available FREE time-expire versions of their VC and Wiiware stuff so users don't want or have to "break the law" this way. Personally I wanted to experiment this as a proof of concept and see whether the VC fuss was worthwhile. Now that I've trialed them I can see that it's most definitely not for me - and I'm not saying that because I hate old games! I love emulation, I love retrogaming.

But the only game I could play that was worth it's salt is Bomberman. The N64 and SNES games all required Classic controllers which adds to the overall cost of the system...even when the games don't need all 4 buttons! WHY force me to shell out £15 for classic controllers when I've already bought the console, 4 wiimotes, 2 nunchucks AND a balance board!?!?!? Ridiculous >:(

All emulators I could try (PC-Engine, Megadrive, NES and Neogeo) had no filtering whatsoever - it would've been nice to at least implement some blurred RF filtering for example. OK - whilst this is more "authentic" to the original console - remember back then we never had 50" high definition TVs to play on. All the titles (barring PC-Engine ones oddly enough) were blocky as hell!

I was looking forward to the Neogeo stuff - however the games chosen are dire!
Megadrive has a few nice titles - however they look terrible. All the dithering done in certain games comes out really blocky on a largescreen telly.
PC Engine has my fave titles. Out of everything I think the best use of VC for something small and fun would be Bomberman.
NES has an issue with interlacing for some reason related to me using component cables :-/

I really wanted to trial some of the N64 stuff as it may well have had the only worthwhile titles there. Mariokart 64, Lylat Wars, Zelda, Waverace, etc ... shame about the controller issue. *sigh* Again I'd be interested mainly at 4 player titles like Mariokart - unfortunately that'd mean an extra £60 for 4 classic controllers!

I also tried some Wiiware titles - the ping pong one fails to load on a PAL system, the others work well with minor issues (missing text on some menus, channel icons, etc.) I know they've only just come out, but the titles are boring and failed to impress...even Dr Mario wasn't all that. Of course - I'm _sure_ they'll come out with some fabulous work soon enough.

Summary:
Other than Bomberman, Wii VC is a failure for me.
Hardware entry requirements are ridiculous for N64 and SNES titles which arguably may have had the best games to trial.
Wiiware is boring so far, but holds much promise later.
Homebrew is where it's all at!

Before I read this guide, I accidentally overloaded games. When I booted up after the install, it said to make some room so I deleted some stuff (legit games and channels) until I had 400 blocks free. Will there still be any adverse effects? Some more questions:

1. Say I get the smash bros injected in to S&P: SotE, if I already have legit sin & punishment, what will happen to it?

2. Can nintendo detect that these are fake, and ban me or something?

3. With a system update, can any downloaded VC games brick my wii?

4. Will I be able to redownload VC games that I have downloaded from the net from nintendo's shop channel (aka if I download a game from a site, put it on my wii, and then go to the shop, can I dl it again for free?)?

1. Unknown here, but the Wii recognises games by title-ID, so probably the best idea is to just change the title-ID, then you'll have no problem with installing games as long as they all have different title-IDs.

4. If they have a good-ticket.
Whatever ticket they have, the Wii will install the .wad fine, but if they have a bad-ticket, the Wii won't understand the Shop Channel download.

Hi

Newbie here. Great guide, worked almost perfect for me.

The twilight hack installed fine, but the three wad files I installed the first one came up with an error message. Fair enough, the other 2 installed fine (according to the install text).

I reset the Wii and had two new channels to chose from, however I tried starting each game but the screen came up black each time (and I have to turn it off at the mains to get the Wii started again).

Any suggestions?

Wii is a PAL, wad files are PAL, I don't have a Gamecube controller connected and the Wii has never been connected to the net.

Cheers

I have tried this, you can have both with no problems.
