Hey all.
I'm having a Yard Sale soon and I'm thinking of selling most of my DS's. (I have 5)
All I wanna keep is my DSi XL and my DS lite... But... my DS lite is broken.
Let me just tell you what happened.
One day I came back from school and found a cracked hinge... And also the actual plastic shell had a crack too. (I don't know how it happened).
Ever since, my top screen has been trying to commit suicide. Everyday, it stops working even more. The top screen is just plainly white, and flashing, but if you look WAYYY deep you'll see there's still the slightest image showing. Anyway it's definitely a cable problem cause there's a 0.001% chance that when I bend the screen, the image shows properly for like a split-second.
So I though maybe getting myself a tri-wing nintendo screw-driver and a replacement housing case from Dealextreme would do it.
Maybe if I open up the DS and fix the cable to the top screen, then just replace the outer broken case, everything will be alright.
Am I correct? Please tell me if I'm about to do something stupid./
Thx all.

Hey, I had a similar problem, you need to replace the entire top screen as the cable is attached to the screen. If you caught the issue earlier on, a case swap might have done the job, but by the time it's showing white and barely any image (that was when I acted too), you need to replace the screen. You'll need a soldering iron for the speakers as well if you don't have one.

K thanks

I do have a soldering Iron so I guess I'll be needing a housing replacement case, a screw driver and a top screen.
Now you said the cable is attached to the top screen, so when I get one, it comes with a cable attached to the top screen?

Yea the ribbon cable is attached to the top screen, or rather it's part of the top screen, so when you buy it, they come together.
Then I can simply melt the old one off and solder this new one in... Right ?

(Never opened a DS before.)

Replacement of top screen isn't a simple operation: see here or use youtube to see how to replace it and figure out before to buy tools and parts.

Ahh... yes I've seen that in a video 2 minutes ago.

Now look, I know I've bothered you enough with my questions but... I wanted to make sure:
The new housing would fix my cracked hinge right?

Oh and thanks dm2000, just realised you posted.

Yeah cause I'm getting the red Mario replacement housing case and the tri-wing Nintendo screw driver and the top screen all from DX.
I think I have a good shot at this.

My parts came today and I managed to replace the screen, I'm not gonna really care about desoldering then resoldering speakers as I can plug some through the AUX slot.
I got the motherboard attached to the top screen and tightly held it with the battery and tried turning it on, it works like a charm.
And now I'm fucked.
I don't know how to close the DS and put it all back together. It's not possible cause of the top screen's ribbon cable. It's like, in the way, I don't know exactly how to say it but I'll post a picture tomorrow.
Btw I checked a few guides but I only found 1 on youtube which wasn't that good, the rest are picture guides which arent clear.
