Getting Error "Checking to see if you can play game"

Basically the title when I try to open, I get "Checking if you can play the game" and then (since I've turned Internet off) "Unable to connect to internet". I tried to connect to the internet and received "User cannot play this software. I keep getting this specific error when I download only the DLC, the updates seem to work fine but the DLC gives me this error. I installed sigpatches using Awoo and sigpatch updater. I even tried using the file in forked yuzu (because I wanted to make sure it worked) and it seemed to work. What else could be the reason.
If it helps, I'm using sysmmc as compared to emummc because space issues.

Since you mentioned using your sysnand to play the game I'll ask the obvious: is your sysnand updated to the required firmware version for the game? Seems like the kind of mistake I'd make, leaving my sysnand on 9.1.0 and then wondering why my games aren't working, lol. My sysnand is behind many many versions, since I rarely ever touch it for anything.

This might seem dumb but how would I check the exact version of sysnand (Unless I'm missing something)? In System I am running 19.0.1|AMS 1.8.0|(S) The firmware is completely updated. I installed this very recently so I assume in terms of versions I should be good

Yeah you just check the firmware in your user's settings. It shows the version of whatever nand you booted. If you booted an emunand it would show "E" somewhere in the version string. Because you see an (S) you are indeed looking at your sysnand firmware version.

Anyways, firmware not being up to date is not the issue it seems. It was just a shot in the dark. What specific game is giving you trouble? Does your emunand play games fine otherwise?

When installing games, updates, and DLC with tinfoil, I know you can change where you install it to (SD card, system). How are you installing your games and updates? DBI, Tinfoil, etc?

If you've installed NSPs/XCIs on sysMMC and then connected to Nintendo servers (your post seems to indicate this), your console will get banned...

Why are you trying to run pirated stuff outside of emuMMC?

So I'll mention that my specific issue about why I wanted to DLC was solved (I wanted to reload a save file that had finished the DLC and was worried that the save file wouldn't load). However, the DLC itself didn't download. I still have another issue with me now, namely how do I extract the romfs for the game (nxdumptool isn't working for some reason) but it's not relevant for this question.

The game is Pokemon Violet.
I don't have an emunand, only a sysnand
So in terms of downloading the games, I have used several installers, from tinfoil, Awoo tinawoo. None of these have allowed the DLC to be downloaded.

I generally keep airplane mode on, but just because it was it was throwing these errors I tried to connect once, didn't work. Also as I said I don't have emummc, only sysmmc

For Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, I know there's a DLC Ticket floating around that straight up doesn't work. I had to trawl other sites to find one that worked. The one I downloaded from that one site that looks an awful lot like a nintendo e-shop was the one that did not work for me. Finding a different DLC Ticket and installing it did the trick for me. The file I needed to get the DLC working was called "Pokemon Scarlet [DLC The Indigo Disk, The Teal Mask + New Uniform Set] [0100A3D008C5D001][v0]". Haven't had any luck with any of the others.

Out of curiosity, have you progressed far enough in the game where you get the phone call in the academy, letting you know you're about to go on the blueberry field trip? This happens sometime towards the end of the main game, but it has been a hot minute since I've played Scarlet. Since you mention the DLC not working, I'm assuming that you're not getting the phone call inviting you on the field trip, or how does the DLC not working manifest itself for you?

i am getting this same thing with tetris 99 and im on emmumc fw 19.0.1 i would like to know how to check the fw requirement for this game i used my online switch to go to eshop but no such info is provided any help would be nice thanks
update i got it working by reinstalling it with tinfoil
