1. Check if it switches on.
2. Check if it will play a game.
3. Check if it will sign in to PSN.
4. Make sure the controller connects.

If it does all that it should be fine!

Just adding some detail basically everything that was said by Thoob.

1. Make sure its a solid green light (play it for about 30 mins while running a game to see if it'll YLOD or not)
2. fat ps3 tend to have the faulty drives, so bring a PS3 game and test it. Make sure it can read and play it.
3. -
4. -
5. Make sure the hdmi port in the back works.

This is for the fat PS3.

60GB fat... isn't that a launch model? If so, put a PS2 game in there and see if that works too (because launch models are backwards compatible).

If someone is bringing it over to your place I would be extremely suspicious, depending if the person is selling it extremely cheap. Don't just test it with PS2 games, use PS3 games as well. The blu-ray lens might be faulty and the machine could only read DVD's/PS2 games. Check it until your satisfied before buying it.

have a
DVD movie
blu-ray move
CD music

see if they ALL work

if it a PS2 Bc ps3
have a PS2 game and test that

Checked everything its good as far as I can tell.

A went for it.

Question time are they all noisy fuckers? It heats up quickly even when I'm just browsing the net is this normal? Fan spins almost all the time.

Ps

I found out I still have 4gbp in my psn wallet from 4 years ago yippee

Well the 60gb was one of the launched backwards compatible PS3 so its a bit old. The fans should kick up only while gaming (well at least mine does but mine is a 80gb not backwards compatible.) I totally forgot to mention it did you check to see if the system was tamper with? (IE: opened up)

Oh no I forgot to look! The fan kicks in even on the dash? Is it dear to fix if it get ylod?
I'm pretty sure that the fan kicking in on the XMB isn't going to make that much of difference, if that's what you meant to ask. I have no idea what you said in the second question. =/ The YLOD on the PS3 isn't really a common issue... but I'm pretty sure it's fixable.
