GBAtemp Buddy List
Small changes
As you may have noticed we have made some slight changes to the Online Users box on the portal, it's lost some weight and is now more tidy and compact which should improve portal aesthetics and load times.

By default, now only total online members stats and online staff members will show in the list, as well as whose celebrating their birthday(s). If you still want to keep an eye on when your friends are online, you can always click the 'Online Users' box title to be taken to the full online users list, or you can populate your Buddy List with your friends names. When your Buddies are online they will also show up in the Online Users box. You'll also notice that when browsing threads that your Buddies will have small Buddy icons displayed next to their country flag (as you can see below).

You can add your friends to your Buddy List by either clicking the 'Add Buddy' button under their profile info when viewing threads (currently only available when using the 'GBAtemp v3' forum skin), by clicking 'Add to buddy list' within their profile page or by manually adding their name in the Buddy List screen.

We're still working on more uses for the Buddy system, so if you have any good ideas or comments let us know in this thread!

Nice work! I always thought the hundreds of member names on the front page were a bit useless and space consuming.

I hope next you'll be pimping out the fast reply.

When someone adds someone, does a request hve to be approved (a la Myspace) or something? Or can someone just add us and we'll never know it?

This will probably sound kinda strange, and I'm not asking this to be sarcastic or anything, but what exactly is the buddy list for?

Yes, in fact, you and I are buddies, only you don't know it yet.

I got a suggestion.
You know the country flags? It would be VERY nice if they would have a tooltip with the name of the country.
I've found myself checking the image filename for which country a person is from on several occasions, would be nice if this could be helped in a clean and nice way

Thanks for making GBAtemp even better!

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
