Hey, why isn't the 3DS included here?
just wondering what the 3DS tutorials and faqs are for..
3DS tuts and faqs

at this point the 3ds is still lacking many features promised at launch, now promised in a "future software upgrade". this makes the 3ds section and what you can currently discuss, rather limited. we had only a select amount of prizes and wanted to enhance the site as a whole, so we had to pick specific categories that were lacking information, would benefit from information, and keep it limited enough so that each could win a prize. yes, we could have had less prizes per category and thus expanded by having more categories, but that isn't what we chose to do for this competition.

anyone can post anything at this point, and anything posted will benefit the site when moved to a proper section. however, posts which are not on-topic are not eligible to win a prize.

QUOTE(MaxNuker @ May 2 2011, 10:05 AM) can we make video tutorials?? like... we want to explain something, but which would be much better explained with a video... can we do it? or include videos made by us, about the tutorial, in the middle of the tutorial?

you can add vids to enhance your written post, but as this is a writing competition we are judging based on written content.

This is a great idea! Im pretty well verse in some programming languages, but my real cup o' tea is writing in plain old prose! Can't wait to post a tutorial (and win ;p ).
GBAtemp is seriously the best site out of any scene site, be it ninty products or otherwise.

No copy-pasting from other sites (or from existing tutorials on the 'temp). Doing so will result in a warn and your entry will be deleted.

Should have asked about this earlier but what if you are the author of guide on that other site and what if it's on your personal blog as well and the new one here is going to have more and improved pictures and details?

Does Android count as an "alternative console"?

android is an operating system not a console. when we think of consoles we think of dedicated gaming systems, however modern handhelds can do much more. what android system would you want to write about, keeping in mind that writing just about the o/s would not be on-topic.

Question, would this count for the Comp?

http://gbatemp.net/t291163-all-lastest-cfw...p;#entry3623548

what i see here is a listing of custom firmware files and some pros/cons. the writing would need to be greatly expanded upon to be a "guide" and much more information would need to be added to be a "FAQ". right now this is a very brief listing with some download links.

from the top post
•Tutorials must be new and original; tutorials already posted on the 'temp are not eligible
please remember that pre-existing guides and faqs are not allowed as per the rules of the competition. greatly expanding upon what you have would be the only way to submit a valid entry. i'm thinking of a guide on how to install the firmware, what it does, how it works, the history of it, etc, and the links are just the helpful bit at the very end.

i hope that answers your question.

That's what I have so far. I'm planning on diving into details such as rooting Android devices, flashing ROMs, and other things. I've started on some introductory things about Android, but will go into the 'fun stuff' later on. Is this good?

Well, I'd love to enter. I have a good NDS hacking tutorial I wrote, that's on many other forums, but not here (I've been wanting to for a while). Would I be able to bring it here from another forum? I will be fixing links and images and whatnot, of course.

you can have a guide about android if you relate it to a specific console, system, handheld device, etc, otherwise it doesn't fit into the categories for this competition. so you could talk about an android tablet you have, how android works for it, how to use roms on that tablet etc. if you don't relate it to an alternative console we will have to discuss if we should allow it, and you don't want discussions from the judges. relate it to a system and then say how your guide is about using android on that system for playing roms and homebrew.

as per the rules, as they are written, your tutorial would need to be completely rewritten to be considered for a prize. tutorials must be new and original and can not be c/p from another site.

the ultimate goal of this competition is to generate new content for not only gbatemp but the community for which the guide would benefit. rehashing old content just to win a prize is not permitted.

Hmmm. The first bullet there caught me on that one. I was assuming it meant that it cannot have been posted here on GBAtemp. I'll have to make a very good attempt at rewriting it, seeing as I go incredibly in-depth in it.

Would relating it to, say, smartphones in general count then? Since smartphones function practically the same across the board, just with different specs (just like hardware changes almost), they're kind of like 'a console' with numerous iterations.

Well, if I cannot copy/paste it, can I throw a [WIP] tag on the title, c/p, and make my edits when I get the time? Seeing as I can't copy a tutorial that isn't here, can I also have the following rule edited to reflect it, because the way it is worded makes it seem that as long as it is not on GBAtemp, it's free game:

edited to read...

Tutorials must be new and original (not previously posted on the Internet) -- tutorials already posted on the 'temp are also not eligible.

as for a WIP tag, i don't see the point in making a post until it gets close to the submission date. however, you could do what you want to act as a place holder so someone else doesn't attempt your same tutorial. just be sure you remember to make all of the edits, as one c/p part could make the post ineligible in the eyes of the judges.

the point of this contest is to generate more content. yet the rules have been written to force that content into being very specific. if you can not directly relate your content to one particular phone then i would ask you to PM costello and ask his opinion. it is not within my powers to change the rules of the competition.

Well, I'll go through it with a fine-toothed comb. But I will be posting it soon so no one ninja's me to my type of tutorial. Thanks for the useful advice.

smartphones pretty much slowed down the homebrew scene as ppl can make money making apps for smartphones instead of making homebrew for NDS and psp. The smartphone will eventually kill the consoles too the flash cart only delays this.

What is the spec difference between the limited edition supercard DS2 and the non limited edition??

None. It just looks cooler, and comes with more accessories I believe.
