Hello all,
I am haven't done anything with my 3DS for a good year and since a lot has changed in regards to custom firmwares, I would be very happy if somebody could push me in the right direction to search for detailed how-to's myself.

My Problem: I have a 3DS and N3DS with 9.2 Firmware and both have installed Gateway emunand. But since CIAs are much more convenient, I don't really need the Gateway anymore at all (It also draws battery like crazy when inserted, even if using a CIA). But: Always when I switch of the device, I have to search for my Gateway since there is a check when you start Gateway emunand if you have the card inserted. So, when I am on the road and forgot my card, I am just out of luck.

Is there somehow a possibility to directly boot to Gateway emunand without having the card check every time or do I have to backup all my CIA saves and just install a CFW?(recommendations are welcome)

Oh, ok. That makes things easier than expected. Any recommendations on what firmware to use? (I'm not the biggest retro-gamer so no VC necessary)

Thanks for the help. I will try it out tonight.

Edit:
Oh wait... I just realised that I forgot to ask about one important detail. The games I still HAVE on my Gateway, I will not be able to play after installing CFW, right?

Just install a CFW, and all your stuff will be there. EmuNAND is the same across all CFWs (except Palantine).

The games that are on your red card won't be accessible (obviously), but everything installed on your EmuNAND will be accessible through CFW (Emunand).

You can use both a CFW and gateway. Just use menu hax and the .3dsx loaders for each. If you want to play only cia's boot the CFW if you to use your red card boot gateway.
