Well, my SD cards arrived. But... Not my Gateway.

I'm thinking of downgrading, but what firmware does the EU copy downgrade to?
I would need it to be 4.2 or below since my only working DS flashcard only works there.
(Stupid screen protector, tried cleaning it from under but it practically filled it with gunk. Crap screen cleaner)

CIA is like a eshop download. Needs emunand to be save, so only recommended when you can do emunand. 3ds = 3dz, only 3dz has to have a 'header' injected into it, basicly a part of information a legit 3ds game would have, once you inject this into a 3ds file, you can litteraly rename it to a 3dz, and should be able to play online with it (3dz that is, not 3ds).
Okay so the only reason for 3dz would be if you arent able to connect to eshop (like if the newest update is out but not capable with emunand yet) Lets say I'm on 9.4 emunand. I can easily just download an eshop update for my rom instead (like i did for ssb). And then cia is just for convenience sake or preference im guessing

you had 2 month to order ha ha ha ha

I wasn't going to order until I was absolutely positive that Gateway's method involved a kernel exploit. I need emuNAND and region free. If they just managed to upgrade their FPGA to utilize the same method of piracy that Sky3DS uses, then I would not want it.

I really wish they just told us months ago what the exploit was capable of. I would have ordered immediately. Instead, I played it safe...

Even then, you need the game updates to play online 3dz or not. So if you don't have access to eshop for some reason, you also need a .cia with the latest game update.

Erm.....well, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be 4.2, but the DS flash cart thing..... if I remember correctly, cearp
made something that allows blocked DS flash carts to be played on any firmware.

So how does playing region locked games work with gateway?
You play them

JKJK, there's 2 ways it's done: in classic mode and in gateway mode.

In Classic mode, you're able to run retail 3DS games without the region block preventing you from doing so, but you can't use your gateway red card with it.

Gateway mode on the other hand, allows you to, well, just put romz of other regions and load'em. But you can't use retail carts in this mode.

But to use something of the sort I need a Gateway, and mine hasn't arrived.

I have a little question: if i not want emunand 9.4 on 9.2 console, but want a emunand to not install cias on sysnand... i can make simply "format emunand" on 9.2 console and stop? In this way i can have a emunand on 9.2 and install cia not in sysnand?

:wtf:

You can install cia with emunand 9.2 and 9.4. With 9.2 you will need to obtain updates from somewhere other than the eShop.

So I saw on maxconsole gary posted first saying that the N3DS exploit will only be for 9.0-9.2, then said he confirmed with GW that it would be for 8.1-9.2.

Has GW been saying support will be for 8.1-9.2 all along or is this a recent issue? Since the whole browser issue on 8.1 JP consoles I guess some people are worried.

Is everyone convinced that GW will support 8.1 JP N3DS consoles? I've been trying to keep up with this thread and others, but info moves fast.

That's what there saying I'm also on 8.1 N3ds so we are all on the same boat. Hopefully we don't have anything to worry about and to be honest they figured out a soft downgrade I think a minor upgrade to 9.2 from 8.1 should be easy

Gary is the best source we have on here
Edit: So yes, eventually they'll support it

I plan on updating my 2DS emuNAND from 9.2 to 9.4. I was wondering if there are issues with emuNAND 9.4 as I have read some people saying their emuNAND gives them black screen after the update.

Ninjhax won't work any more. But there is a theme mixer on 9.4 and the popups have a fancy border around them

That's only if you update to an unsupported emuNAND version.

NinjHax works on 9.2 sysNAND with the retail cart.

What do you mean by "unsupported?"
well, currently all versions are supported by gateway, but say if nintendo drop 9.5 next week, you would probably need to wait for GW 3.1 to be released before updating....or it would just boot to a black screen, you can just re-format emunand from the gateway menu if this happens and be restored to the same FW as your sysnand....thenupdate to the highest available supported version via a rom or something, but generally its never more than a week or 2 for emunand FW compatibility patches.....but it all depends on how much as changed in each FW, it could be less (with the shortest wait being 1 day) or a lot longer (there was a gap of like 2/3 months when 7.x encryption was added to the system FW

Okay so looks like updated it to 9.4 would work without issues correct?
