I may be remembering VERY incorrectly, but I thought I heard something awhile back about making a 3DS region-free with Gateway (without the need to keep inserting the card).

I believe I remember what you're talking about (Some kind of modified gateway launcher file I think?) however shortly after it was either rumored or confirmed to cause bricks

So I finally received my 64GB microSD. And while I don't have a gateway on my hands right now, I'm trying to have everything prepared for when I get one.

I keep hearing that it's recommended to format the SD card to exFAT. What's the benefit of this, and how would I do this? And, would I still be able to place files normally on windows, or do I need some app to do it for me? :glare:

Have people tried to run a 4.x emunand on a 2DS yet?
No definite reports yet. All we've got is that 2DS's just can't.

The purpose of formatting the mSD to exFAT, to the best of my knowledge, is due to the fact that it supports roms > 4GB. You SHOULD be able to just place the files normally on windows, but don't take my word for it. I'm as new to this as you are.

Given the amount of fake cards out there, run a test to verify its integrity.
Windows will format it as exFAT., Sd formatter will not. Right click in explorer and select Format.
Get your Roms copied over.
Have a beer.

Actually, I was able to get the 3DS to load JPN carts, and I have a EUR 3DSXL, and I do not have a Gateway yet.

This is what i did:
1) I was on 9.2, so I downgraded to 4.5
2) Load web exploit/ds profile exploit (I had to use the web one, but i used go.scmods.com, clicked Gateway 4.x)
3) Load the exploit while on 4.5
4) Go to Classic mode, click X
5) Takes me to 'system menu'
6) Put in cart and voila!
The game i tested was Inazuma Eleven GO 2: Chrono Stone - Neppu and Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy: Big Bang
Can provide pictures later if needed c:

Can anyone link me to a CIA vs .3ds vs .3dz vs headers ect discussion? Or just tell me a brief list of pros and cons each way? I'm finding tutorials on how to use all these but no real explanation which I should. Thanks.

CIA is like a eshop download. Needs emunand to be save, so only recommended when you can do emunand. 3ds = 3dz, only 3dz has to have a 'header' injected into it, basicly a part of information a legit 3ds game would have, once you inject this into a 3ds file, you can litteraly rename it to a 3dz, and should be able to play online with it (3dz that is, not 3ds).
