Here you go. Beats any console any day of the week. The GPU is a beast, you can play all the current titles maxed out. on top of that when dx 12 gets released youre probably gonna get a 30% boost so id say youre good to go with this one for at least 3-4 years on ultra.

Might as well start with prices

    CPU
    http://www.amazon.com/AMD-3-8GHz-Quad-Core-Socket-FD4130FRGU/dp/B00L1FLHOQ/
$60 (possibly plus $5 shipping). Not sure where they managed to get 4Ghz from though.

    GPU
    http://www.amazon.com/XFX-925MHz-2XDVI-Graphics-R9270ACNFC/dp/B00GP6JGWQ/
    $145

    RAM
    http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Balli...609DS1S00-BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00/dp/B006WAGGUK/
    $52+5 shipping.

    HDD
    http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Desktop-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST1000DM003/dp/B005T3GRNW/
    Call it $50

Motherboard, the most entry range I have seen but hey.
    http://www.amazon.com/ECS-ATX-DDR3-1800-AMD/dp/B00HGO0JAY/
    $50 again

    PSU
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00EON40CS/
$60 but they could probably do better.

    Case
    http://www.amazon.com/NZXT-Technologies-Phantom-Chassis-CA-PH240-W1/dp/B00K8PLN4O/
    70

    Windows 7
    http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Premium-Builder-Refurbished-Installation/dp/B00LG20IB2/
    70 for the OEM version.

567 including the OS and various types of shipping all from Amazon and without hunting around, though I was taking the cheapest models of the same spec (invariably what I find these ebay builders do but hey), though nothing in that set off alarms. Oh and a USB wifi but I am pretty sure I am using one as a footrest at this point. Call it $10. No keyboard, no mouse, not even a DVD player.

They want 630 for it. Back in the early days of XP I could expect a build cost of around that but that is a bit steep for me. None of that is bulk deals, bundles or some other kind of stock clearance either.

I would probably find a better vendor selling just a nice machine without decent graphics (that is mostly what they do) and stick a decent graphics card in it. Or buy it now, play a few lower demand games (or on lower settings) and then stick a decent graphics card in it

    Speaking of specs

    CPU
    http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/amd_bulldozer_fx_4130_review,14.html
Not the best review (it does not compare it to Intel's offerings) but barely acceptable, not all games are CPU bound these days but it is not unheard of.

    Graphics
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/7503/the-amd-radeon-r9-270x-270-review-feat-asus-his/5
You probably won't be playing with "extreme" settings but yeah it could probably catch you up and hold out on lower setting for a year or two.

No sense in looking at the rest of the specs. Personally I would not do that but I build my own machines. If you want a gaming machine off the showroom floor then that could probably get it done but there are likely better options.

You're looking at about $800? Let's start at what games you're looking to play. The title says "Gaming PC", so it's safe to assume you're looking to run something specific.

There are tons of great builds ranging from $450 to $800 that will suit your needs/wants.

Just something I threw together quick. If you're looking for pre-built, I can find you something too.

This is probably my opinion but I like to emulate so I prefer nvidia due to the fact that in the past ati couldn't emulate as many frames as well, may be different now but I would reccomend having a i5-4770k if not a i7 and a gtx 970 and you will be set for quite some time. Don't listen to me though I don't have current hardware I just want to work with that for a living. I use a i7-4700MQ with a gyx 755m :( wouldn't have bought it if I knew about everything that came after....damn you lenovo!

Got my i7-4970k coming in today. Upgrading from a 4670 @4.4ghz.. A negligible upgrade. Just need the extra power for work. Paired with a GTX 970. It tears through newer games and even Dolphin. :D

Glad to hear ^this. Those were my projected upgrade specs. Problem is I need good hardware for a hackintosh. I do a lot of video editing and I'm sick of adobe crashing in windows its very unreliable.

To be honest, I would recommend not going down that route, especially with such a low budget.

Does she game? If not, then you could actually make a pretty good general use PC, since she wouldn't need to cough out the cash for a graphics card.

She does lightly but likes the major stuff hence she wants to be able to play Diablo 3 and GTA V at least and she likes strategy games and FPS's

Pretty budget build for around $400, Will play most major games at medium settings very well, however, if she wants to step her graphics game up a notch you can go with a GTX 960 graphics card, preferably a 4GB VRAM variant for more leeway with graphics settings and bumping the PSU up to a 500W one for a little overhead. CPU will want to be overclocked for it to reach its true potential as one of the best budget CPUs out there, but probably isn't required if you just want to stick with this build as it is. I have not included Windows as I have a friend who can always just get me a free copy. Windows 7/8/8.1 users with a legit copy will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free within the first year, so that might be some good information to keep in mind as well, personally I would go with Windows 8.1 since it's lighter on the RAM and it's never, but since the Windows 10 upgrade offer is available to any of those versions of Windows, it might not really matter all too much, so that will be up to personal preference.

Enough to play D3 maxed and GTA V at playable settings.

There is also an AMD FX series build for roughly the same price, maybe even a bit more expensive. My only gripe as a former FX user? The mobo selection is dull.

Also, to get the proper experience, you will want to O/C the pentium. Even on the stock cooler it goes up well enough. :D
