Graphics card
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8670D.96575.0.html

Passable at 1024x768 for many things, pretty much useless beyond that.

CPU

Again acceptable for many things.

12 gigs of ram is possibly overkill but RAM is cheap so I would not complain.

$500 USD and trying to match the build.

CPU
$117

GPU comes with it (the CPU is what is actually known as an APU which has a graphics setup built in).

Motherboard. It says only 2 slots on the Frys page. Lenovo tend to do slightly better but I will still pick a cheapy model, though this does not include HDMI

Can do about $40

RAM. Unless they discount the stuff given over to the graphics I am not sure what they have done here if the motherboards only have two slots.
Because I don't have the time to spend time messing around go $100 for 16 gigs in 2 x 8 gig sticks.

Case, call it the 70 from last time.

PSU. They reckon only 180W which you might wish to pay attention to if you plan on getting a GPU at a later date. I will go the 60 from last time.

HDD
http://www.amazon.com/Green-2TB-Desktop-Hard-Drive/dp/B008YAHW6I/
$80 for a WD Green. I think I saw a Hitachi for slightly less.

That would be 467 before the OS. I can probably get it down low enough to compete with that if you bundled the OS or went with 8 gigs of RAM.

OEM windows 8 (basic, not sure what extra pro might get me in this instance)

90 dollars.

It does apparently include 802.11AC wifi which is interesting (I can not see much below 20 USD). Likewise this does include a keyboard and mouse and frankly they are actually quite usable on the ones I have seen.

So yeah you can probably play a few games and if you are willing to upgrade the PSU and add a graphics card at a later date you can do more. I would not buy this with the intention of upgrading much more than a hard drive or adding a GPU and reckon I could probably build a more upgrade friendly system for similar money. Equally this was build matching rather than trying to build something better and that is not always the best thing to try if you are comparing things.
So yeah a better option than that ebay thing this thread started out with. I would happily recommend that to those in need of an office machine with the occasional bit of grunt and could see my way to something more too but again I do build my own machines when I can.
