The Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon series. Such amazing games need a revival!

Yes! The SNES and 64 games are awesome and has some of the best game music I've ever heard, top notch Konami series.

Timeless.

I. WANT. PLEASE tell me where you got that. But I'd like a PROPER dynasty warrior style game like DW Gundam Portable or a Super Robot Taisen game.
It's been about 5 years since the last Goemon game that hasn't been a cellphone game.
So basically the franchise is dead now, and if I were you I wouldn't expect a revival.
Also, the 3DS IS getting a Dynasty Warriors style game, Samurai Warriors Chronicles.

We are getting a Tales of Abyss port

Correction, Japan is getting a Tales of Abyss port. Namco Bandai announced that there would be no more tales games outside of Japan due to lack of sales.

Yes just yes!

Good list of games.

I do not know what it really about, but Cross Edge seem interesting for this.

Soul Caliber, Tekken , Mortal kombat and more Japanese ports!

We have enough and more will come with time. It's new gaming tech, guys. It's a perfect chance for new games.

I don't understand why people are suggesting games which would look identical on DS and would not profit at all in being implemented on 3DS.

What's the point of new Chrono Trigger, Layton, Scribblenauts or yet another Pokemon game ? Would they be any better in 3D? - not really (sprites in front of a background, or few layers of backgrounds, that's it). Would they make any use of graphical capabilities of Pica200? - not really.

On the other hand, genres that were struggling on DS now are perfectly possible. FPS-es, TPS-es, racing, flight simulators... for instance, a game similar to Amiga's Super Stardust tunnel sequence would be neat - all these asteroids flying towards you. Silent Hill - why not ? A decent Virtua Cop clone (the attempts on DS were really poor). Metroid Prime 3 (although MPH on DS was not bad). A first person GTA.

Personally, I'd like to see a good F-Zero game. This past generation got fucked in that regard.

Like GX or X or maybe even the snes/GBA ones? I would like a combination of GX and X.
Almost as difficult as GX (this game is a beast) with a little more metal based soundtrack like X.

Quoted for truth.

Somehow the first 64 game was so bad (read: quirky fun dumb humorous amazing) it got to be one of the best games for the N64! It's one I own and even play every now and then still... such a great game!

Quote this for truth as well.

I'd like to see a remake of the first game (as in, really the first game and not shattered memories or whatever), a remake of the second.... and then a new game developed by the original team (never gonna happen)

Well you could count the 2009 pachislot/pachinko game that brought us an awesome Ganbare Goemon soundtrack with guitar solos, guest artists , old japanese instruments etc.
Also Konami made the Rebirth titles so I guess it isn't entirely impossible.

You should be able to find both soundtracks on khinsider. I think that's where I got them from.

I own both of the N64 games (currently in my 'top N64 games' bag), they're currently residing under my bed. I really feel like digging them out again; they have a lot of charm and are both very solid platformers.

A proper western AD&D-based dungeon crawling game. I cannot help to hate Japanese dungeons for their turn-based combat (ruins all the fun for me) and enemies appearing out of nowhere just in front of your face at fixed locations (Etrian Oddyssey, yuck !). Eye of Beholder port on GBA could have been so much nicer if they hadn't decided to introduce turn-based combat...

Black Crypt, Ishar...

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
