Hi guys. I'm running a New 3DS XL on 11.5 U. My CFW is Luma3DS 8.1. My MicroSD is a 32GB Sandisk formatted as MS-DOS FAT32. Last night I backed up my SD card onto my computer, formatted the card, and put my backup data back onto the card. This has worked for me for as long as I can remember up until now. When I rebooted my system with the SD card, it looked like this:

All my 3DS games are gone (even legit ones), and only my DSi games are there. Both my Luma splash screenand my custom theme showed up, which means the SD card is definitely being read. I went into System Settings > Data Management > MicroSD Software, and I got this:

So, I tried reformatting the SD card, letting it sit on its own overnight, putting my backup back on it, and I got the same thing. Another thing I thought of might be this little "mod" I did; I was having trouble keeping the system's battery in (It's expanded so much that the backplate is cracked and useless), so I taped it to the console. As you can see, I went on top of the SD card slot with it, so maybe I put some pressure on it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Buy another battery, that battery is dangerous, and respect the SD card do a full format with the Panasonic SD formater

Sounds like either or SD card or system's SD card reader is borked (probably the former), or your backup was corrupted. Sorry.
My guess is that the SD card moved around while you were backing up the data because of the tape. What do you mean when you say it's expanded?
His battery is swollen, which is pretty dangerous.

Well, I've tried giving the card a full format, backing my data back up, and got the same thing. Then I tried one of my earlier backups from June 15th, and my games and apps were there. YAY. Now I have to either go through my later backup and see what went wrong with it between working perfectly, and going corrupted after backing it up, or take off from my other backup from over a month ago.

So... Anyone have any idea what's causing this? Because I really wouldn't care to restart from a backup made on June 15th.

I don't know why it happens (It's happened to me once, I made a backup of my SD to my computer so I could use my SD to hack a friend's system [A9LH era, RedNAND] and my backup somehow got corrupted /shrug)
It hasn't happened to me again, but I'd make backups on a fairly regular basis if you're worried. Also replace that battery it looks life threatening e_e

Will your system allow you to go to system settings > data management > nintendo 3ds > software? Or are you getting this message when you hit data management?

And yes, please do replace that battery ASAP! it could and very likely screw your entire system over.

To be honest the battery is probably not going to explode or catch fire or anything like that, quality Li-Ion/LiPo batteries are designed to fail in a safe manner, so unless there's a manufacturing defect (see: Note 7) it takes a lot to make that happen.
Still, it's not worth taking the chance, and the battery life is probably shit anyway, when a battery cell inflates it kills battery life. So might as well replace it.
