Didn't they already confirm this like a year ago anyway? I would be very very surprised if Gamecube doesn't appear on the VC.
I wonder how well it will be able to emulate the Gamecube though, will we see a lot of titles, or will it be like the N64 on the Wii with only a handful of titles that actually make it to the eshop.

I doubt Nintendo will flood the VC market. They'll choose what will be available, and when they will be, just like how they've handled the current market. Plus, any 3rd party games that Nintendo wants on the VC will have to be negotiated with their respected developers.
as further evidenced by Wii64 and Not64

all in all, those 2 emulators don't mean nothing. the ones Nintendo used for the N64 games were custom written for each game they was sold with, with Wii64 they was written to emulate each and every N64 game. considering what Wii64 could actually do without being finished (still in beta and all that) it should you the Wii could a few bits more than you give it credit for. As Disco mentioned, most of it I think is a tactic to release this stuff accordly, look at the 3DS eShop, that doesn't have a great amount of Gameboy Color games, are you telling me Nintendo are struggling to write a gameboy emu?
They had experience with the GameCube mode in the Wii already ...maybe they can emulate that in the Wii U, to have its games on the e-shop
possible right?
There is no gamecube hypervisor and no hardware gets switched off, it just gets ignored because gamecube games don't know it exists. It's pretty easy to virtualize the whole system to redirect IO access, no emulation necessary. Although I strongly doubt that's what they'll do, I would bet the games will be recompiled using the WiiU SDK to use the new controllers - which means there will be a very limited number of available games. No, the Wii used a Gamecube hypervisor. When it went into GC mode it switched off all hardware that the GC didn't have, like USB ports and bluetooth for wiimotes, plus everything it didn't use software wise like IOS, so it couldn't interact with the home menu etc.
They couldn't do that with the Wii U because it would be looking for a minidisc drive, not an SSD.
But since the architecture should be fairly similar, and it's been easy to emulate GC at a good frame rate on PCs for like 8 years now, the Wii U should have no problem doing it.
I dunno, remember, n64 games were upscaled on the wii. I cannot imagine Ninty going to the effort to make them widescreen though
You would know about the virtualisation, right? I think they'd possibly continue the New Play Control series (My money on NPC Wind Waker with Tingle on the GamePad) release them retail and the eShop if they're recompiling with the Wii U SDK. The games would have a much higher visibility than the eShop at retail stores. There is no gamecube hypervisor and no hardware gets switched off, it just gets ignored because gamecube games don't know it exists. Or rename it Cafelution.I just hope one day you'll get the chance to put the U in Devolution
I love the way you think. Nintendo needs to hire you.My money on NPC Wind Waker with Tingle on the GamePad.
