Not going to take this as a confirmation until we get word from Nintendo.

Gamecube games rendered in HD would be nice. Although when Nintendo does add them to the eShop, they're probably just going to be run in their native res (640x480) with no improvements.

I dunno, remember, n64 games were upscaled on the wii. I cannot imagine Ninty going to the effort to make them widescreen though

Didn't they already confirm this like a year ago anyway? I would be very very surprised if Gamecube doesn't appear on the VC.

I wonder how well it will be able to emulate the Gamecube though, will we see a lot of titles, or will it be like the N64 on the Wii with only a handful of titles that actually make it to the eshop.

I doubt Nintendo will flood the VC market. They'll choose what will be available, and when they will be, just like how they've handled the current market. Plus, any 3rd party games that Nintendo wants on the VC will have to be negotiated with their respected developers.

Yeah I understand that, but look how many NES and SNES games made it to the VC as opposed to the N64. Clearly the N64 emulation had limits on the Wii that were not easy to program around (as further evidenced by Wii64 and Not64), so I'm just curious if we can hope to see as much as we saw of the NES and SNES on the Wii or will it be more like what we saw of the N64 on the Wii, or perhaps somewhere in between? I do hope that the Wii-U will bring more N64 games to the VC and I bet it will.

all in all, those 2 emulators don't mean nothing. the ones Nintendo used for the N64 games were custom written for each game they was sold with, with Wii64 they was written to emulate each and every N64 game. considering what Wii64 could actually do without being finished (still in beta and all that) it should you the Wii could a few bits more than you give it credit for. As Disco mentioned, most of it I think is a tactic to release this stuff accordly, look at the 3DS eShop, that doesn't have a great amount of Gameboy Color games, are you telling me Nintendo are struggling to write a gameboy emu?

They had experience with the GameCube mode in the Wii already ...maybe they can emulate that in the Wii U, to have its games on the e-shop
possible right?

Theoretically we should be able to see VC GC games running just as well as they do on the Wii - A recent ign article stated VC games purchased on your Wii will be played in Wii mode on the Wii U (also, disappointingly, there will be no upscaling of Wii games on Wii U, so I'm 99.9% sure GC games will suffer the same fate), so it's all there....
Problem with that though, Wii games, plus any VC Wii games cannot be tranferred to the Gamepad screen...... hopefully we'll get updates so that we can do the transfer - come on Ninty, I wanna play Wind Waker & Mario Sunshine on the shitter lol - leaving only the Wii & Wiiware games unable to switch.....;)

I don't doubt that there is a way to get a fully supported N64 emulator on the Wii, but I think the slow progress on any such emulator on the wii, shows that its no easy feat, I'm sure Nintendo even has trouble emulating its N64 games on the Wii. I recall the creator of Harvest Moon saying that Harvest Moon 64 would never come to the Wii's VC because programming it in was too big of a task and they didn't think it would be worth the while (as it turns out though, the latest version of Not64 very accurately emulates Harvest Moon 64 speed and all), but this just proves that adapting N64 games to the Wii isn't a simple copy and paste job, lots of things have to be fiddled and tinkered with for each game to make them properly work on the wii. I just hope it isn't so complicated for GC games on the Wii U.

However, given that Gamecube games can run on the Wii, perhaps they'll find a way to exploit that so that GC games are emulated through that mode or something of that nature.

don't get me wrong, I don't mean to make it sound like an easy task, it is just I was comparing people doing this as a hobby at home compared to coders Nintendo can employ and give a fair chunk of money and reources to make these things happen. The HM guy though, I think its a classical case there of not wanting to do the work. Still I can see why a lot of the older stuff has made its way to the VC, I imagine the most of the 16 bit stuff for Nintendo and all involved is probably pure profit

Wii doesn't emulate GC, though. It's got actual GC hardware in it. Since they took it out for the non-BC Wii's and Wii U won't be playing GC discs either, it would be kinda weird to run GC VC in Wii mode instead of taking advantage of Wii U's higher power. Still doubt they'll let you upscale them, though.

No, the Wii used a Gamecube hypervisor. When it went into GC mode it switched off all hardware that the GC didn't have, like USB ports and bluetooth for wiimotes, plus everything it didn't use software wise like IOS, so it couldn't interact with the home menu etc.

They couldn't do that with the Wii U because it would be looking for a minidisc drive, not an SSD.

But since the architecture should be fairly similar, and it's been easy to emulate GC at a good frame rate on PCs for like 8 years now, the Wii U should have no problem doing it.

There is no gamecube hypervisor and no hardware gets switched off, it just gets ignored because gamecube games don't know it exists. It's pretty easy to virtualize the whole system to redirect IO access, no emulation necessary. Although I strongly doubt that's what they'll do, I would bet the games will be recompiled using the WiiU SDK to use the new controllers - which means there will be a very limited number of available games.

That would be really nice.
But I doubt Nintendo would do that.
The best we can hope for is Nintendo upscalling the games to 1080p

You would know about the virtualisation, right? I think they'd possibly continue the New Play Control series (My money on NPC Wind Waker with Tingle on the GamePad) release them retail and the eShop if they're recompiling with the Wii U SDK. The games would have a much higher visibility than the eShop at retail stores.

I just hope one day you'll get the chance to put the U in Devolution ;)
