With the lack of new DS games, it's hard finding games nowadays that won't bore me. What games have you guys played for a long time? Definitely the Professor Layton series imo. I love replaying the puzzles.

I think I put about 100 hours into the first DS game... And I still haven't finished the last 2 bonus dungeons.

Smash Bros Melee.

Last time I checked the statistics (shortly before getting brawl) it had over 700 hours played (almost exclusively 3-4 players). And that's only counting MY savegame, not when we played somewhere else on someone elses console/savegame.

Obvious early pokemon games also.
My Red and Silver savegames each have 200-250 hours on them (glad I never lost those savegames).
The ones afterwards I only played through once, though.

There might have been a few games that also got to the three-digit hour mark (Lufia II for SNES, Secret of Mana for SNES), but I don't remember many of them.
Also I'm not going to count any mmo's I played because I have simply no way of measuring how much time I actually spent playing them over the time that I had an active account there.

We're talking about DS games.

DQ Rocket Slime (50hours+), PS0 (80 hours+) and DQ9 (150hours+).
And Tingle, can't say how long exactly since there's no in-game timer, but definitely a loooong time (what with all the items to collect for alchemy, pretty much like Rocket Slime actually).

Pokémon Soul Silver, definitely.
Last time I checked I had 300+ hours and I kept playing for a while after that.

Other than that, I have no idea. I have very little notion of time when I play, and I don't check often.
I know I played Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for 100+ hours and Re:coded for a bit less than 100.

I'd say the only DS game I've clocked a huge amount of time on is Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. About 90 hours and 1.5 cycles before my DS Lite broke.

Super Scribblenauts may also count, but I have no idea how much time I clocked on it, both because there's no in-game clock that I know of, and because I beat it on flashcart before buying the physical cartridge, and I no longer have that save file (I think)...

As for non-DS games with DS ports, I've spent a ton of time on the PS-X Chrono Trigger and the PS2 Disgaea. Chrono Trigger I can definitely recommend, because they added a bunch of stuff to the Chronicles enhanced port, not to mention the SNES original. The only reason I haven't bought the DS version is because I've clocked so many hours on my Chronicles version, that starting over from scratch doesn't appeal to me. Disgaea is much more of a personal choice, because they had to fudge the graphics and especially the sound to fit it on the DS, but they did add a bit of new content, mostly some stages and new playable characters.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
