Is this true?? They haven't answered my email I sent them about 3 days ago..I was very detailed in intelligent with what I wrote them in the email..

Is it only me who's horrified by the fact they need a battery, i.e. upper left corner of this gutted picture:

As far as I can see, neither DS-Extreme, R4DS/M3 Simply needs a battery. Why does the G6DS Real need a battery (to keep saves I assume), when the others don't?

The reason I'm horrified is that I own a "G6 Flash" where a similar battery was used which went flat after a year - and it was a mess soldering on a new battery ... I'm actually surprised it's working after my soldering job ... yeah needed a bit of tape as well as you typically have a hard time tracking down these particular batteries with solder legs (as used in these carts) and trying to solder on the old legs is practially impossible (without potentially destroying the battery). If that wasn't all, the case broke so now it's taped as well ... looks awful and the cart is bulging as well.

Unless someone can tell me this battery is rechargeable (when DS is on), this is a definite stopper for me ... I'm just hoping they will have such a low price the others will have to follow (DS-Extreme in particular). It's strange, you didn't comment on this in the review.

Lol, it is NOT a battery, it is a capacitor. They are kinda the same thing but capacitors store the energy a different way and are highly rechargeable. And capacitors are the norm on almost all slot 1 devices today. All of the N-Card clones (MK5, UFP, DSLinker, DS Fire Link, Express Card) have them, the SuperCard DS ONE, M3DS Real, and I'm sure there are more to come. And I can't stand the re-boot save system used by most of the slot 1 devices but that is another topic altogether.

Lol, the G6/M3 team isn't busted. They are simply gearing up for a new product release and are probably busy.

It doesn't look like any backup capacitor I've seen before (usually much bulkier and different packaging), but I hope your right. I'm definitely no expert, but to me this looks exactly like the "button cell battery" I had in my G6 Flash 3, which was non-rechargeable and only larger (diameter). Where did you get your information from (I just want this absolutely confirmed, either backup capacitor or rechargeable battery ... same function as you say)?

As for the slot 1 cards I mentioned DS-Extreme & R4DS/M3 Simply, I would think they save directly to flash (i.e. no need for battery) - or do you mean that you lose saves if you turn the DS power off, without doing some kind of soft reboot?

Sorry if I worry too much or ask too stupid questions

Well I don't force anyone to sign up, I just thought people would like to see another POV as someone else also posted their review and I thought I would add my two cents. I also didn't post a link with the URL as I'm not trying to garner support. I consider myself a lot like Fox News, lol, I report you decide.

no, it's like having to lose few minutes of your life to register and then decide the review was crap. advertising crap.

Man of the slot 1 devices have capacitors. Here is the brand that most of them are using, including the G6DS Real, SC1, DSLinker, etc...

And most slot 1 devices save to the SRAM and then to the flash memory on re-start.

If i am correct the M3 DS Simply/R4 doesn't need a reboot to write the save as it writes the save directly into the Transflash card and the G6 DS Real requires a reboot to write the save file. Am i right?

Yes, the M3/R4 DS is one of the few slot 1 devices that save directly to microSD instantly. Almost all others, SC1, N-Card clones, G6DS Real... write to memory on re-start.

I wouldn't worry about that. but also one could make the point that saving with this method and writing on reboot is a safer save method.
