I have a Phat PS2 console which I have recently bought and I wanted to patch and burn some games downloaded from the internet so I could play them via FreeDVDboot. However, after I downloaded the ISOs, I was not able to patch them and came across the same error with the patcher despite which ISO I decided to use. The patcher was unable to open the ISO regardless of which payload I decided to use. For context, I am trying to patch a Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3. I have been using Jabu's FDVDB ESR patcher at its latest 0.4 version but I keep having the same error occur.

Has this happened with anyone, and if so, how did you fix it?

Has this happened with anyone, and if so, how did you fix it?

Did you tried the Patcher from @ffgriever ?
Proved and reliable.

..and I am pretty sure, your downloaded ISO´s are really ISO´s.(No other Extension like .exe or something else..).

Good Luck
Thank you.:)

Hi

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the ESR patcher which you have linked me to is not the FDVDB patcher and requires Free McBoot to play burned games on my PS2, which I have not installed.

The FDVDB patcher does not require me to mod my PS2 which is why I wanted to use it to patch my ISOs. And yes, the ISOs I downloaded are RAR files which I extract to ISO files.

Optionally:

Preparation:
Step 1: Burn the FreeDVDBoot prebuilt standard ISO image for phat Instructions Here
Step 2: In a clean FAT32 usb thumbdrive copy the FreeMCBoot install for phat and the ESR launcher.
Step 3: Insert the thumbdrive in your PS2, put the FreeDVDBoot disc and run.
Step 4: Run the FreeMCBoot install and follow instructions. Best cards are the original 8 MB MagicGates, but any compatible 8 MB MagicGate will do.
Step 5: Copy ESR Launcher to memory card in a safe location ("mc0:/APPS/ESR.elf")
Step 6: Configure FreeMCBoot (using the new main bios menu entry) to have the ESR in memory card as main ESR launcher

To play:
Step 1: Patch isos with regular patcher and burn.
Step 2: Put disc in ps2 and play.

Use a roomy usb drive (64GB will do most of the time, multiple USBs if you are collecting) and openps2loader to have the games installed and not use the DVD drive anymore.

Wouldn't it be easier if you install fmcb on your memory card and then install the esr application (dont forget to use esr patcher with the isos) ?

edit:
basically what @Urbanshadow said

@zfreeman

I have tried every version and even the one that you sent me a link to, via dragging and dropping and also opening up the application and patching it the normal way. It doesn't work regardless of how I try to do it.

I keep getting the same error saying that the patcher cannot open the ISO file.

@Urbanshadow

Hi, thanks for your reply.

This is my final resort unfortunately, but I would like to skip modding my PS2 and go with the easier FreeDVDboot option...
But if I can't figure out a solution to this problem, I will end up doing what you've said.

Is your NET Framework up-to-date? I'm using NET v4.8; also, I'm using Windows 10 x64, if maybe that matters. I do recommend, like the others, to save the laser for official discs.

Mod how? Everything would be in the MC. Want an unaltered experience? Take out the MC. That easy.

My NET framework is up to date. I don't think that's the problem unfortunately.

This is mainly centered around slim ps2's even the 90000 series havent seen fat support yet unless there's some kind of update. Note i used Jabu's Patcher after trying my own method worked fine
I did a video of some things booting when this was still new

There are payloads out which do support Phat consoles now, but the problem isn't with the payloads. I've tried patching with the slim PS2 payloads (3.10.3.11 hybrid) but I get the same error.

Free MC Boot does not mod your PS2. It is installed as a program on your memory card. In practice it is no different from you putting in a burned disc containing Free DVD Boot, except you use a memory instead of a DVD-R disc.

The problem must be one your side. I have tried 0.3 and 0.4, both work great with all ISO. Try it with another computer. Important: Unpack the patcher in a separate folder of your PC. One thing for sure: it's not the patcher as it works like charm – so the culprit in every case is your device. AND: Deactivate your anti-virus and/or other security-programs in the background. Could be that your antivirus denies the access.

I had the same problem of the patcher giving 'can't open message'. After half an hour of dancing around my dumbass found that my antivirus was blocking the program from modification of the file. So make sure you green light the esr patcher in your antivirus.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
