Hello,

My xbox 360 got pushed over by my cat and the dvd drive stopped reading discs. I then bought a used xbox 360 that had RROD'd but had a working dvd drive. Then I heard that it had been flashed (or something... I don't really understand this but I bet you guys know what is done to them).

I haven't had the change to even test it out yet but if I plug it in my normal xbox 360 will it work normally so that I can play my physical and real copies of games or do I have to do some changes?

You'll have to flash your DVD keys to the new drive.
DVD drives are paired to a 360 and you can't change them without flashing ;]

What you can do, if their the same drive, is swap the DVD drive PCB's from the non working DVD drive to the working one.
That way you can avoid flashing them.

If their not the same, then you'll have to spoof the firmware as well (ie you got a Liteon drive and the RRoD box is a Hitachi for example)
Note that with spoofing drives, non AP 2.5 drives can't respond to certain checks on the DVD and will fail to boot a drive on a AP 2.5 firmware.
So it would be best to just swap a Liteon for a liteon and a benq for a benq etc.

Thanks for the reply. Seemed rather difficult so I just popped both of them open and changed the original laser with the one from flashed drive and it works now.
But man, Microsoft really is trying to make things hard with fixing stuff yourself. Even the powercord doesn't fit to another Xbox. :D

old Xenons/Zephyr PSU's (203w) fit in the Falcon and Jasper consoles (175 and 150w)
You can get adapters for Slim consoles so that powerbricks from the Phatties also work on slims as well ;]

Then again, you're not supposed to fix the console yourself ;p

Anyway glad you figured it out yourself ;]

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

@SylverReZ, i think they have been doing that since late 2000s

Either that or their old games were unfinished aswell but we can't notice it

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@Psionic Roshambo, I have a rom of the ds version of impossible mission
