Hi everyone,

Just wondering what people would prefer for when the 3DS gets hacked. I for one would definitely prefer a softmod, much like the Wii. I was thinking about this because while messing around in the system settings today, I saw an option to copy save data to the SD card. Obviously, it needs a system update before it works, but I think this has the potential to lead to a bannerbomb-esque type of exploit.

Well, I'd say softmod, that way I don't have to carry a flashcart around with me all of the time and hopefully won't have to pay to hack it.

Flashcarts are easier imo, but at the same time they break easily. After a couple of months you'll have bad contacts and get occasional freezes.

Softmods can get really complicated, especially after a couple of official firmware updates.

I would prefer a softmod as I like the idea of having full control of my device, and (maybe) allowing for things a flashcart is unlikely to do, such as custom themes etc.

Even if it's a hack that only allows hombrew? (however unlikley that might be)

I prefer a Flash card. I played the little PSP CFW deal. I like how the flash card works along with the official software.

Agreed, but personally I'd like to at least see a hack that gets rid of the Black bars for DS games and/or makes the 3DS Region-Free.

I would love to see that, but I know once that happens, it opens a Pandora's Box for the rest of the 3DS's life span.

Yeah, that's true

What I would really like to see are things such as custom themes, and 3D emulators (imagine it!). While the emulators can easily be done on the flashcart, I just overall prefer the feel of softmod, I feel like I have complete control over the entire system.

Gets rid of the black bars by what method?
Chop the top and bottom of the image off so that it can fit into the wide aspect top screen?
Or stretch the image horizontally so that everything appears wider than it should?

The stretch method. I HATE black bars. Be it widescreen, to make a show or to movie look better, I don't give a crap. No matter what they piss me off, I don't care if the game looks worse in the process.

I have to agree with this. I don't care how bad it looks, the black bars bug the hell out of me.

Glad i'm not the only one who hates those black bars!

I don't even notice black bars once I'm immersed in a game or movie.
I've been playing GBA games on my original DS recently and although I know there is a black border around the screen I don't actually notice it.

Back on topic:
I'd prefer a softmod because they usually lead to more options to do interesting things with the machine.
My original DS is soft-modded with FlashMe to remove the health and safety screen.
Does the 3DS have a health and safety screen?

Well if it does get hacked.. I would prefer flashcard over softmods.
I do not want to alter my system

.
so i can go events and such and play the originals I own without any problem.
