There is ADFOpus, i used it some years ago to browse inside my ADFs and copy the content to a Win folder. But i tried it yesterday on my Win7 PC and had some trouble with it.

font8.spr should be on the root of the first disk.
I just copied all files from a german and us version. but i had no text on the holocube scene (maybe because auf the german version, i'll check the us version later) and pressing the L-Button restarts the level.

This game has had so many ports to so many consoles yet i never played it. I think im going to play this port

I can't talk to the wounded man in the jungle. I pressed every key with and without the teleporter in my hand.
Any idea what to do? I am using the PC CD version.

i'm using the english dos version right now, which appear to be the exact same files (minus the cd quality cut scenes). i just played level 1 until i got to the wounded man. i walked over infront of him and pressed "B" to talk to him. he starts off by saying "help me young man. i've been attacked by mutants...". pressing "Y" furthers the conversation. he instructs you to find his teleporter so that he can get urgent medical care.

i don't have the teleporter yet. i'm off to grab it now.

got the teleporter, put it in the inventory slot, walked to the guy and pressed A. the cut scene showed me handing it to him and he thanks me. the guy teleports and leaves his ID card behind.

bug report:
i'm at the bridge where you have to insert the cartridge. when i choose the fully charged cartridge from my inventory and then press A to use it, i get the "pick up" animation for the cartridge. i'm pretty sure there is a missing animation here where the cartridge is inserted into the system to open the laser bridge.

i can't get the save-state saving or loading to work. holding L to bring up the in-game menu, when i select either one nothing happens. looks like the in-game saves from the "save stations" aren't working either.

Is it possible to save games?

If I press the L button, I get a Load/Save menu, and I have tried saving. However, whenever I Load a game it always starts at the beginning of the game.

Hmm...just completed Another World last night, was going to get into this game tonight, but maybe it's better to wait for an update if it's not saving.

yeah, they are not working. it is getting a bit annoying because i keep forgetting when to jump. those damn force fields keep killing me. lol

i just beat level 1.

i'm going to throw on the dos cd files and cd cut scenes now and try it again.

edit::
using the *.SEQ pc cd cut scenes the correct animation plays at the bridge.

bug report:
  • not sure if its my files or what, but with the files off a 1:1 pc cd iso when you talk to the hurt man the red lips ("talking") icon is all messed up. however, it didn't do this after rebooting and adding the sega cd voice file. not sure if adding it fixed something or if it was the reboot.
  • when i pick up the clear key (using the *.SEQ cut scenes) the engine errored and shut off my dsi xl. the error is "can't open object.pol." the engine should not be using the *.pol cut scenes if the *.seq are present. i'm assuming this is an error. i went back and put on the *.pol and *.seq cut scenes. when i got back to this part the *.pol scene played instead of the high-res *.seq scene.
  • using the *.SEQ cut scenes, after jumping off at the end of level 1 i get an error "unable to allocate MAP buffer!"

can someone verify for me that there are 69 *.SEQ files in the PC CD release? i want to make sure i'm not missing the clear key cut scene.

it seems that while the *.SEQ cut scenes are supported they are buggy on the ds. i would test more and find the rest of the bugs but without saving it becomes to much trial and error.

during this last playthrough of level 1 i put the sega cd voice file in there and the wounded man talks! =) the anti-g belt guy also talks. the only problem is that there is a slight pause between each voice sequence, otherwise they play back just fine and without issue.

OK, will try to fix that soon.
Also, i will change the controls to be more usable.
Will try to fix .SEQ problems, I think i know where theyr are.

For whatever reason, this is one game I never really played at any time in the past. I have multiple copies across various system emulated on my PC too. Can't say why exactly as this is my kind of game, but there you are. Guess it just got lost in the years of gaming backlogs. Kinda anxious for the update to fix the saving issue so I can get into it, because it was next game on my list to play. I guess I could play some version of it on the PC, but I've gotten used to the DS and not being tethered to a computer chair to play my games.

Though maybe I'll get a head start on it by booting one of those older versions anyway (probably my SegaCD emu, I have an inexplicable affinity for that system) and giving it a go to familiarize myself with the game until it's fixed on the DS.

thanks for adding in my dpad/button changes. =)

a few posts back i reported about SEQ cut scene not playing when you pick up the clear key (error: "can't open object.pol"). i also reported that the SEQ cut scene crashes when leaving level 1 (error: unable to allocate MAP buffer!). finally i reported that one of the animations (on the bridge when you insert the cartridge) is not playing correctly, the wrong one shows up.

on the main menu could you make it so "A" is the confirmation key instead of "X". the same change could be made to the in-game menu for save/load. its just a bit odd to have to hit "X" instead of "A".

when there are subtitles on the screen you have to press "R" to continue the conversation. i first realized this after adding the segacd sound file with the guy in the forest who asks for help. would it be possible to map this key press also to "A".

On the game over screen where we get a choice to continue or abort, which key press executes the choice? It doesn't seem to respond to any of them, perhaps this should also be mapped to "A".

i haven't tested with the .POL files yet, but with the SEQ video files when you pick the option to "load" from the main menu (1st homebrew screen) the game will play the first SEQ cut scene and then prompt the user to start a game, etc. after you pick "start" the homebrew will load the game and then jump to what appears to be the most recent save state. i was thinking that it should go right to the most recent save state (by date/time) and skip all of the vids and menu options?

when you die you can not click abort or continue. pressing X allows you to select continue or abort. when the game starts over, the last save state slot you were using is overwritten. this is forcing me to save twice during each game (01 & 02) so if one is overwritten i can continue with the other. this makes it time consuming to use save states quickly. it would be nice if this could be fixed.

when you pick up the clear key the SEQ cut sceen is still giving an error. if the POL cut scene is in the directory then the engine will play the low quality dos scene. here is a save state: http://www.sendspace.com/file/5pp2e7

after starting on level 2 i made 2 save slots (2-01, 2-02) and turned off the ds. after rebooting (and having the issue above with the game loading after the movies, etc) the game loads my last world-1 save slot. i am unable to load my world-2 save slots. the only way to get back to world-2 is to use the engine's main menu option to level skip. after i have skipped to world-2 i am able to use my save-slots again. it would be nice if the engine loaded the last available save slot, and assumed the player wanted to pick up where they left off. however, it is also a nice feature that they can pick load and then choose what level to play.

would it be possible to hold LEFT or RIGHT on the d-pad to cycle through the save state numbers, instead of having to press for each increment?

in level-2 there is another instance where you must pick up the clear key. I am having the same issue where the SEQ clip crashes. if the POL clip is present then it will play. here is a save state: http://www.sendspace.com/file/f9cnp9

while making the save states i had a bug appear. i loaded up the game by selecting "load" on the main menu. when the engine's main menu appeared i picked the level select, and then went to level-2. once the level opened i was at the beginning and my first save slot has been overwritten.

i'm getting the occasional SEQ crash on level-2. Error: unable to allocate 11656 bytes for SEQ buffer 2!

level 3 (death tower) plays through without any problems.

when picking up the teleport receiver after throwing it (one of many times) i got an error: unable to allocate 14533 bytes for SEQ buffer 2!. seems like there are still some issues with the SEQ vids. however, these crashes are random and do not happen that often.

at the end of level 5 when you walk into the teleport beam there is sometimes an error: unable to allocate MAP buffer!. the SEQ cut scene never plays and level 6 never loads. pressing any button turns off the ds. i have reloaded the save state and tried again, the next time the SEQ cut scene played.

on level 6, starting with the room with the alien dog, the game gets a little sluggish. its hard to notice, you really need to load between a previous save state and one for this room. if you do that you'll notice that the character is walking a little bit slower. he holsters the gun a little bit slower, climbs a litle bit slower, etc. i've been wanting to try this in dsi mode to see if it runs faster, but i haven't had a chance. here is a save state: http://www.sendspace.com/file/kvyzsa
