You don't need a caddy it just makes it not loose.

This drive should work fine or you can buy one local for a good price. I know staples always seem to have good deals on drives once in a while. A fatter drive might not work since my 360 slim caddy is fairly full as is but the one I linked to might not be as bad. Actually they look about the same so just try not to buy a bigger drive if your going to use the caddy.

Edit: Ya, I bought the same one as I linked to so you don't have much space with the caddy so you'll need a normal not taller or thicker drive. I checked around there isn't exactly one that offers more space or enough space to make a difference. Opening the caddy is fairly easy just pry on the open side and the button on the bottom doesn't do much. Then do the steps in the above post.

It's not needed indeed but if he's going to move it around or doesn't have it on a stable surface or the 360 is vibrating then a HDD casing could be quite useful.

Besides they aren't that expensive.

Okay so
$5 cable demon to usb assuming it isn't included
$20+ xecutor demon
$20 soldering equipment
$5 360 slim opening kit
$5 360 Slim Caddy
$5-10 Sata to usb cable assuming you'll transfer it that way.
$30+ Hard Drive

He probably won't buy a 12.5mm so sorry about me seeming like I'm arguing about it.
Ya this is going way over the 300 mark you wanted. Eh what can you do.

Yep.
Matter of assembling it and plonking it in the 360 and booting it.
After formatting it it's ready to get the old xbox partition restored and the savefiles etc.
Well my xbox is "new" and the only thing i did was booting to see how the drive looks like, do i still need to format it?

Thank you, also if I don't use the caddy how do I connect it to my xbox by the way (sorry for being so clueless)

That just means I'll need to save up more since there is still time until xecutor demon is release. Is this HDD compatible with xbox also?

If you buy a new 2.5 inch drive for your 360 then you won't.

However I should (to be on the safe side) back the internal MU up.
The 4GB version.

You could dedicate that 4 GB to FSD, saved games and several homebrew apps etc.
And use the entire harddrive for games.
Just a suggestion ;]

Maybe FSD might load faster from the internal MU (I have no idea on this but it might)

MU stands for Memory Unit.

Since you got the 4 GB model you already got 4 GB of onboard storage (this isn't the NAND but it's a dedicated memory unit build in the box)

I can't remember if it has a SATA interface or a USB interface.
It's attached on the Mobo as a daughterboard so if it's faster with read/write then a HDD then it's indeed a good choice to dedicate it ;]

Wonder if there a way to find the r/w speed to see if it's higher compare to the hdd i plan to buy. And is "Interface" another word for r/w speed?

It's documented somewhere.
I can't remember where anymore ;p

I guess that it's faster then the HDD tho..
It's flash compared to magnetic platters basically.

The interface is just the type of connection ;]
for example the interface of an IDE connection requires a 80 pin flatcable and a 4 pin Molex plug.
SATA only requires a few data wires and a 7 pin power plug.

Both are interfaces but they differ completely.
(hope it made some sense xd)

Flash is the type of storage used in the MU.

Flashchips are also found in USB pendrives/SSD drives (or was that NAND)
Nah Flash is found in USB pendrives at least.
Their pretty quick with reading/writing ;]

It's just the read/write speed yep.

Besides you don't have slowed down speeds due to fragmenting of files.
Flash based storage doesn't have moving components that search info on the disc ;]
