Because I'm sure the people who don't know are likely to be regular online dwellers, who would see it here.

Logic.

Just because you're sure, doesn't mean you're right.

My sarcasm too subtle for you?

i'm going to wait for the final version before i download version 3 a lot of ad ons still don't work with version 3 yet.
I've found that only a handful are actually incompatible. You just need the Nightly Tester Tools to force the extension to install.

Firefox 3 is definitely a big improvement over Firefox 2. Also with the current benchmarks that has been done, and also from personal benchmarks I have made, Firefox 3 beats the other current browsers on the market in terms of speed and the memory foot print. Though of course this holds true with minimal extensions, while being nice, extensions do slightly increase the memory usage of Firefox.

Over all, Firefox is a well balanced and polished browser suitable for just about anyone. Its certainly a leap above Internet Explorer.

And no, I'm not a Firefox fanboy, I actually switched over from Opera 9.5 when Firefox made a scene. I've been using the nightly builds of Firefox 3 since the late alpha stages and I'm quite impressed with the changes and development of it.

So from someone who has roughly 10 browsers on his PC for development and web design purposes, I recommend Firefox 3.

At any rate, for those who are interested, I'll post an incomplete change log of all the changes since Firefox 2. Some of them simply makes me go Wow and drool as the oppurtunity to play with some f the new goodies added.

New browser features

* Address bar auto-complete
o 389491 - When typing into the address bar, match against entire URL and page title, not just the beginning of the URL.
o 401869 - Allow multiple-word search in location bar auto-complete.
o 403159 - Show the URL and page title on separate lines in autocomplete.
o 399664 - Indicate which part of the result matches the typed text.
o 411293 - Sort pages in autocomplete using the number of visits, with more recent visits weighted more heavily.
o 395739 - Adaptive learning: remember which page you selected from autocomplete last time you typed the same text, and show it first(?).
o 373353 - Show favicons (site icons) in autocomplete results.
* Bookmarks
o 385266 - Add a "star" button in the location bar for single-click bookmarking.
o 387734, 421483 - Add several default "smart folders" by default: "Most Visited" on the bookmarks bar, and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" in the bookmarks menu.
o 317847 - Let users create "smart folders" by searching and clicking "save this search".
o You can now organize bookmarks using tags in addition to folders.
o 239429 - Display URL in status bar while using bookmark & history sidebars.
* Search
o 380785 - Add Wikipedia to the default search engine list.
o 346079 - Switch search engines with Cmd+scroll over the search bar.
o 400327 - Allow resizing the search bar (when it is adjacent to the location bar).
o 378553 - Search engine keywords. (If you set "g" as a keyword for Google, you can type "g foo" into the address bar to search Google for "foo". To set keywords, click the search bar dropdown and select "Manage Search Engines...". You can still create %s keywords for bookmarks, like in Firefox 2.)
* Downloads
o 377243, 230870 - Make it possible to resume downloads across sessions.
o 402278 - Download activity summary in the status bar.
o 253768 - Add a search box to the download manager.
o 388517 - Show file size and origin of completed downloads instead of just "Done".
o 403674 - Add "Go to Download Page" to download context menu.
o 227749 - Add "Copy Download Link" to download context menu.
o 228842 - Allow multiple selections in Download Manager.

o 357951 - Double-clicking the tab overflow scroll buttons should scroll by the width of the tab bar.
o 345950 - Add a hidden pref, browser.tabs.tabMaxWidth, for users who want tabs to be smaller. (This is useful if you want to close several tabs without moving the cursor, but it means less of each tab's title will be visible.)
* Zoom
o 4821, 389628 - Full page zooming. (By default, Firefox's zoom feature now enlarges images and layout in addition to text. You can toggle this behavior using the "Zoom Text Only" menu item.)
o 401221 - Provide finer control over zooming.
o 378549 - Remember zoom setting for each site.
* Plugins and helper applications
o 339056 - Add plugins to the Add-on Manager so that users can disable individual plugins.
o 377784 - New "Applications" preferences pane for configuring handlers for MIME types and protocol schemes.
o 372441 - Let web applications register to handle protocols using registerProtocolHandler from HTML5. (For example, Yahoo Mail might register to handle mailto: URLs that would traditionally be handled by a desktop application such as Thunderbird.)
o 385065 - New protocol handling dialog.
* Extensions
o 252830 - When an untrusted site tries to install an extension, show a button to allow the installation instead of a button to whitelist the site. (This makes it possible to install extensions with fewer clicks.)
o 404024 - Add a "Get Add-ons" pane to the Add-on Manager.

* 386228 - Unify back and forward history dropdowns, showing the current position with a check mark.
* 218142 - Add "Show Image" to context menu of not-successfully-loaded images.
* 185239 - "Print frame" in context menu (in the "this frame" submenu).

o 147017 - Support rgba and hsla colors in CSS.

(This allows sites to control whether text rendering uses the "quality path", which enables kerning and ligatures on most operating systems, or the "fast path", which forgoes these readability tweaks on most operating systems in favor of rendering speed. The new default for HTML is to use the quality path for large font sizes and the fast path for small font sizes. The cutoff is controlled by a hidden pref that defaults to 20px. Only Windows and Linux have fast paths; Mac trunk currently only has a quality path.)

o 261929 - Send URLs (except the query part) in UTF-8 by default.

o 143162 - List items near floats wrap block around float.

* 327675, 330276 - Drop support for pre-Win2k versions of Windows. (These have been unsupported by Microsoft and no longer receive security patches.)
* Drop support for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and 10.3 (Panther).
* Modernize the Linux reference platform.
* Change compilers on Windows: Add support for VC8, drop support for VC6, and switch from VC6 to VC8 by default. (VC7 still works, I think.)

some cool additions, but i still need my ad ons like adblock plus, google toolbar, currency converter, themes, and other misc ad ons, also it seems they have changed some of the buttons around too, why would the home button be put in the bookmarks section? should be kept simple imo.

Ad-Block Plus works fine on RC1. Use Google for currency conversion (just search "$100 in [insert Pound symbol here I'm too lazy to find]") The home button is were it's always been, next to the favicon. I'll try that thing Urza suggested to see if any themes will work, I don't like the default one.

EDIT: I can't even install the Nightly Tester Tools. Ugh.

All the addons you listed work with Fiefox 3, either natively or you can use Me. Tach's Toolkit or the Nightly Tester Tools extension to install them. From testing extensions, I found a majority of Firefox 2 extensions work without any problems in Firefox 3. Only a handful of them were unusable on Firefox 3.

Also I believe skins made for Firefox 2 won't work on Firefox 3 but there are a nice selection of Firefox 3 skins to choose from.

Heres what I currently have:

Its not a beta, its a RC, also known as a Release Candidate. Theres a difference you know. Beta means theres still work to do, its stable for the most part but still buggy while Release Candidates are as their name implies, they are just about good to go. RCs are stable, mostly bug free and feature complete, if all goes well, the RC goes gold and becomes the next stable version of Firefox, if not, they fix up the minor bugs people find,, release another RC and wait to see if anyone else runs into some overlooked bug, if not, it goes gold.

Basicly a release candidate is just about as good as a stable release. No new features will be added, no new additions or changes will be made, just polishing it up for the final release.

This release is extremely unstable on my office Mac (still on Tiger there). I'm going to have to try removing my profile and starting from scratch. Works great on my Macbook/Leopard and my Ubuntu box.

Hey, Urza! Instead of beating up the kids on gbatemp, how about getting your ass in the "name the movie thread" - you're holding the game up.

I liked Beta 5 a lot and I upgraded to 3.0 RC1. its good but not a lot of my extensions work. i guess that's the only downside right now.
