I have an old PS3 which doesn't boot, with either a broken HDD port or a broken HDD itself, I am not sure. It doesn't read the HDD when inserted into the HDD port of the PS3, gives the error "No storage detected" and doesn't boot. So I bought an external case for the HDD of the PS3 and tried booting with that inserted into the USB port: Still says no storage and doesn't boot. I tried connecting that HDD into the PC and the case blinked red. So I am guessing the HDD is faulty, but like I said I can't be sure since I have no other 2.5" HDD. What can be the cause?

Hey up.

It won't boot from USB even with the internal hdd connected.

Format the HDD on an PC and then put it back in the PS3. Your Device should prompt you to format as each hdd used in a PS3 will be "branded" for that specific PS3.

If it still doesn't recognize it the hdd itself could be the problem (you will probably recon this when formatting on PC already)
Or it might be the port which I don't belive cause they are pretty flexible and well soldered.
