Hacking Fat PS3 on 2.45

So I recently bought the original PlayStation 3 model CECHL04 (PAL) on 2.45 OFW and wanted to put CFW on it. I watched numerous of videos and tutorials but got confused since there are so many of them. What I am wondering is how I should proceed with this? I understand that I have to upgrade it to OFW 3.55 via a USB stick, but then many tutorials said that I should upgrade to CFW 3.55 afterwards to dump the NAND eID etc.. Is that so I can have those as backups in case something bad happens, in order to flash it back? I don't have a flasher btw.

I heard Rebug is the best CFW so far, so should I go with that one? Then there's the whole CEX, DEX, SEX, and REX thing.. I guess DEX is the one to go with?

Any help would be appreciated, preferably a thorough step by step guide since I don't want to screw this one up by doing something stupid..

Thank you for providing the tutorial. Do you know if this tutorial is up to date? Obviously the Rebug CFW has changed since then, but is there anything else I should be aware of?

just follow them first and then you can install the latest rebug and multiman by just updating them with the same procedure (i.e. the steps in installing 4.30 rebug and multiman).

also when downloading the latest rebug, download the rex version and not the d-rex version

Basically, install OFW 3.55 and then install Rebug REX.

hehehe.... guess there are easier ways.... never knew you can install 4.81 rebug on 3.55 ofw....

Downgraders* use 3.55 as a base FW to install CFW to.
You don't need to downgrade or upgrade to a 3.55 CFW, just upgrade to a 3.55 OFW and then install Rebug REX 4.81.1 (or whatever the newest is)
Then install the Rebug toolbox and enable cobra etc.
Install Multiman and voila~

Edit: *people that downgrade from >3.55 FW's

Thanks a lot guys I really appreciate the help. I have now successfully installed 4.81.2 REX edition on my PS3, installed the latest Rebug toolbox, enabled COBRA and set system mode to REBUG and it's going really good so far. I looked for Multiman and found a website that I could download version 4.81.02 from, but I saw 2 different downloads available. One was the base and the other was upd, I think base is the one I should go for but would like to know which one you recommend installing?

Thanks, I did not realize until now that UPD was an abbreviation for "Update". I'll be sure to update it.
