Did OP receive a email from Nintendo about his ban?

On the phone to them AGAIN now, not expecting much, I rang about not hearing Anything yesterday and was fobbed off with the usual they're very busy blah blah blah, can't remember who asked but yeah I played out of regions roms quite often, I didn't go online with them though incase an update was needed.

I don't mind waiting on the phone as they're playing the OOT soundtrack. It's MAJESTIC. I hope they keep me waiting to be honest.

I believe there are reports of people getting banned with cias a few pages ago not sure though.

I just bought a private header but even with that I'm not 100% safe because they could easily track the same header being used for different games.

Gave up on Mario Kart 7 and will probably do the same for everything else, not a big deal anything's better than getting banned.

THe people who got banned with cia's were using public headers prior to that. There hasn't been a case of someone who ONLY used cia's getting banned (yet)

Also have we considered if region-free games might be causing this? Has anyone been banned playing games that are only for their systems region?

For all people worrying, It MIGHT be a temporary ban, Let's also check that, Can all banned people please check (bi)daily to see if they're still banned, It might be 1 week,2 weeks or 1 month..

Ive read the .cia incident but he did say he wasnt using only .cia files os theres that. Unless someone who plays exclusively games in .cia format confirms that they have been banned I think theres no need to worry.

It was a matter of time for when Ninty would start cracking down honestly

He was using Private headers, not CIA

It's not about private headers or CIA.

I'm talking about,
has any of the banned users tried connecting via a different network?

Sometimes resetting the routers changes the MAC,
so I was thinking,

What if they didn't ban the 3DS, but rather...

No, someone already posted a side-by-side with a unbanned and banned 3ds on the same router.

Everyone is assuming a MAC Ban on the 3ds, but it is probably a unique identifier on the hardware.

nothing on router level can change mac address

and I agree with above its prob a unique ident on the 3ds

also a temp ban makes zero sense I doubt that

Ok Guys, This is my theory of what I have experience sofar:

I have used a public header before and I have not gotten banned and here's the reason:

The last time I used a public header was for pokemon Y on January 29/2015 @ 1:23am (Depicted in the save file). The ban hammer started around Feb 2nd during the new release for firmware 9.5. I believed that anybody who uses public headers after Feb 2nd are screwed. Pokemon Y is my only game that uses public headers whereas all of my other games, I have converted into cia or injected my own private header into 3dz. Why is my pokemon Y not using a private header? It's because I downloaded this "Online ready" rom, almost 6 months ago when I got my gateway for first time.

One theory I have on the header thing, is that it may very well be a uniquely encrypted identifier, to which only Nintendo has the decryption key for, such that it could store in it, which game the header belongs to, a counter, and a crc to verify the header itself is valid, after decryption.

Assuming that is the case, then Nintendo could very well detect if the header belongs to that game, without needing a database of headers assigned to each manufactured game card.

But since the just started banning, anything is possible, everybody who played online with public headers since 9.3/9.4/9.5 has a change to still get banned i presume.

Think i'll only play my N3DS for the next week :) , just to be safe ;)

This is true, it is still entirely possible.

did my question about if the people with bans were using a different region/region free game ever get answered? That could account for why it's only a small % of the population that uses pub headers
