I think there were unconfirmed reports of .CIAs being banned? Should we be worried?
The cases of CIA ban are for people that switched after the fact. They could have still been banned for the public headers. All I know personally is I have 3 other friends who also use private headers and we are all still safe thus far.

My Sky 3DS should be arriving today, gonna fiddle with it and do some tests for the sake of a greater good!

Play a game with a public header single player mode but a game that has a multiplayer section but don't use it, then we know if they are using active bans or from logs.

You kinda read my mind, I was thinking just that, and then after that going to put an original copy of pokemon AS and play online to see.

so if I play pokemon "Offline" with my wifi switched on? do we know any time frames of how long it takes to get banned?

testing to see if we are banned would be checking our friend codes right?

That just struck a thought.

Have the users who were banned tried accessing a different network?

Like, what if the router's mac was banned, not the 3DS?

not sure that this would be the case as a lot of ISP customers probably don't have a static IP, so if they only ban the dynamic IP of the ISP then when the IP is renewed the ban would be lifted....

This will only show results if you have never used a public header with WiFi on or off before.. Too many variables.

other than my r4 3ds cart (for my DS games) iv never played online with a dumped game? only official store brought carts? guess it could be the start of a base line?

Something tells me that they are using active bans instead of using a log, but of course that's mere speculation and I hope I can clear that out soon.

Most recent ban in that thread claims to only use cia and 3ds. Pokemon still being a common factor. However, updating a cia with the eshop could potentially trip something, I suppose.

never update a CIA via eShop...especially when you can CIA that update

Stop spreading bad info. The eshop doesn't tie updates to games. I just downloaded a metal gear solid snake eater 3D update from the eshop and I don't even own the game. Updates are considered an eshop category if you look, you can download them without owning the game at all.

Thus we can conclude the risk of downloading updates from the eshop is the same risk as downloading ANYTHING from the eshop.
